Iconic Sky Sports football programme Soccer AM is set to be axed at the end of the season, leaving fans and staff members ‘fuming’.

After 28 years on the air, Sky Sports have decided to axe iconic football show Soccer AM.

The Saturday morning show has been ever-present on British screens since 1995, but will no longer be shown following the end of this season.

This leaves just 10 episodes left in the series, as staff are reportedly ‘fuming’ at the decision.

Staff were reportedly told about the decision on Tuesday, and were also informed that they’d be made redundant in May.

Speaking to the Sun, a source close to the show revealed the behind the scenes to the decision.

“It was a complete bombshell.

“Morale is at an all-time low, they are raging.

“It’s going to be an interesting watch over the next few weeks.”

Soccer AM is known for it’s laddish humour, running through the week’s football happenings with celebrity guests, as well as skits and challenges for fans and guests.

The show had previously been presented by Helen Chamberlain and Tim Lovejoy.

Nowadays, ex Hull City midfielder Jimmy Bullard and John Hendley are in charge of presenting the show.

Both are said to be ‘fuming’ at the decision.

Sky Sports’ Response

A Sky Spokesperson has spoken out on the decision to axe the show.

“Soccer AM has played an important role in our coverage of football for the past three decades, and we continually adapt to the evolving needs of our customers.

“We now go into a period of consultation to discuss the proposed changes with our people. We are unable to provide more detail while these consultations are underway.”
