PSG star and Argentina national team captain Lionel Messi returned to Argentina for the first time since those World Cup celebrations. He ran into some crazy fans outside of a restaurant he was attending.

Following his and Argentina’s heroics at the World Cup in Qatar at the end of 2022, it’s safe to say that the love for Messi has reached a new height once again.

The Albiceleste legend was in his homeland for the first time since the title parade in Buenos Aires and Rosario, and he was mobbed leaving a restaurant with his family.

He certainly received a better reception in his home country than he did when he was booed off the field in PSG’s shock defeat to Rennes over the weekend.

You can see some crazy scenes below.

Argentina fans were chanting ‘Messi, Messi, Messi” as the 35-year-old left where he was eating.

The PSG forward was escorted out of the venue by local authorities, but seemed to enjoy the fascinating scenes, and can be seen smiling on his way out.

The crazy interaction comes from the fairytale story that Argentina have been on over the past couple of years. Messi went from being the greatest player to never win an international trophy, to conquering every single competition.

It all started with the Copa America in 2021. They followed it up by winning the  CONMEBOL–UEFA Cup of Champions, beating Euro 2020 champions Italy.

Still, the best was yet to come, as Leo inspired the South American nation to World Cup glory in Qatar. It was the first time that they’d won the competition since Diego Maradona inspired them to win it back in 1986.

There’s no secret as to why he got a reception like this. He is a hero in his country, and will be forever.
