A goal in each half secured a comfortable victory for Brighton over Grimsby in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup this afternoon.

Despite overcoming Premier League opposition in the last round, the Mariners couldn’t fashion an upset at the Amex, as the Seagulls advanced to the last four.

It didn’t take long for the hosts to open the scoring either. German forward Deniz Undav was the first to react after Max Crocombe palmed Moises Caicedo’s effort away after five minutes, turning home for his third Brighton goal of the season.

A largely uneventful remaining 40 minutes in the first-half saw the teams go in at the break with just one goal separating them.

Brighton midfielder Adam Lallana revealed at half-time that Roberto De Zerbi was unhappy with his side’s performance, and wanted more from them in the second-half.

De Zerbi’s strong words clearly worked a trick for the Seagulls.

Irish frontman Evan Ferguson found the net twice, as his side ran out as 5-0 winners over Grimsby.

Alexis Mac Allister played the 18-year-old in just five minutes after reappearing from the changing rooms, as he brought the ball down brilliantly and finished into the bottom right corner.

The Irishman then linked well with Undav to finish powerfully past Crocombe for his second of the afternoon.

A fourth arrived after 82 minutes, as Solly March headed home brilliantly from Adam Webster’s cross.

The fifth came courtesy of Japanese forward Kaoru Mitoma. The 25-year-old’s effort deflected off of Luke Waterfall, and found it’s way past Crocombe – securing Brighton’s place in the semi-final.
