Casemiro will face a spell on the sidelines after receiving a red card in Manchester United’s 0-0 draw against Southampton at Old Trafford this afternoon.

Manchester United midfielder Casemiro will serve a four-match ban after receiving a red card in the goalless draw against Southampton this afternoon.

The Brazilian was shown his marching orders for a heavy challenge on Charly Alcaraz after just 33 minutes. Initially a yellow card, VAR overturned the decision, and Anthony Taylor showed the midfielder a red card.

It’s Casemiro’s second red card in just three Premier League outings.

He was sent off against Crystal Palace last month, which saw him miss two clashes against Leeds United and the win against Leicester City.

As he has already been sent off this term, his suspension will be for four matches, rather than three.

If United don’t appeal the decision, the midfielder will miss the Red Devils‘ next four domestic matches.

Erik ten Hag was unhappy with his dismissal, which may suggest an appeal.

“Casemiro played over 500 games in Europe and never once got a red card. Now he has two in the Premier League.

“His absence is not the issue. We will deal with that.

“This game was influenced by the referee.”

Which Games Will Casemiro Miss?

  • Manchester United vs Fulham (FA Cup)
  • Newcastle United vs Manchester United (Premier League)
  • Manchester United vs Brentford (Premier League)
  • Manchester United vs Everton (Premier League)

Due to domestic red cards not carrying over to European competitions, Casemiro will be available for selection on Thursday in the second-leg of United’s Europa League last-16 tie against Real Betis.

The next domestic match he will be available for will be on April 15, as Manchester United travel to the City Ground to take on Nottingham Forest.
