Donald McCain has a great recent record with runners having their first start in a handicap chase, regardless of whether they’d run over fences previously. Since the beginning of 2021, he’s been successful with 13 of the 42 qualifiers (31% strike-rate) for a profit of £25.93 to a £1 level stake at SP. SOMEWHAT CLOUDY could be worth chancing despite never having jumped a fence in public before.

Emma Smith-Chaston has a good record when riding for boss Micky Hammond, scoring on 35 of her 209 mounts (16.8% strike-rate) for a profit of £64.85 to a £1 level stake at SP (expected winners = 22.38). In Class 4 or lower company only, the profit improves to £84.35 (34 winners from 185 bets). MISTER BELLS didn’t see out his race over three miles at Ayr last time but looks interesting now dropping back in trip.
