Star Sports have come up with a clever idea ahead of the 2023 Cheltenham Festival – a tipping knockout competition that will include some ‘all-star’ names from the world of horse racing tipping – one of which is SportsLens’ daily horse racing pundit Andrew Mount.
This ‘invite only’ Cheltenham Festival tipping event will pitch the ‘best-of-the-best’ pundits – including SportsLens’ very own Andrew Mount and the Racing Post’s Paul Kealy head-to-head over the four days.

Andrew Mount Will Face Stephen Harris on Day One Of The Festival
SportsLens racing expert Andrew Mount is one of just 32 hand-picked tipsters to get the call from Star Sports, in this exclusive event that will give horse racing fans an extra sub-plot to follow alongside the actual racing.
First up for Andrew Mount will be a day one clash with Stephen Harris from bettingexpert.com – and if the betting is to be believed it could be a close call.
Andrew Mount told SportsLens ahead of the competition – “I’m delighted to be involved in the StarSports Cheltenham Knockout Tipping Competition. It’s a great concept and is set to raise a nice few quid for charity, with any profits from the sponsor’s book on the tournament going to the Injured Jockeys Fund. They are right to price me up as second favourite in my first round match with Stephen Harris, though shocks are not uncommon at the festival and at least we’ll have a British winner on day one (you are a British aren’t you Stephen?).”
While the outright betting sees Mount @ 12/1 with the competition sponsors Star Sports to go all the way. (Full outright betting below)
You can, of course, also follow Andrew Mount’s Cheltenham tips and best bets during the Festival on SportsLens.
Who Will Be Crowned The Star Sports King (or Queen) Tipster at The 2023 Cheltenham Festival?
During the four-day Cheltenham Festival punters will have horse racing betting tips flying at them from all directions. However, the ‘good news’ is they can now get the best bets from some of the top industry experts in one place.
Star Sports have managed to hook up with 32 familiar names when it comes to horse racing tipping and are pitching them in a head-to-head knockout-style cup competition.
There’s ÂŁ500 up for grabs to the winning tipster – which will go to their chosen charity. With the 2nd getting ÂŁ250, 3rd ÂŁ100 and even 4th will take home ÂŁ50.
Dave Jolly, Head of Trading at Starsports.bet said: “This is a great fun idea and an exciting new format which have priced up. There are lots of well known industry names putting their reputations on the line, all in aid of their selected charities. To avoid upsetting any friends or associates I’ve delegated the pricing !! Good luck everyone.”
The draw took place LIVE on Thursday to see which tipsters will be locking horns on Day One of the Cheltenham Festival (watch below).

The 32 well-known horse racing pundits and tipsters are out of the hat, and they’ve all got their first round opponents.
There are some big matchups already with Oddschecker’s Andy Holding and the Racing Post’s Paul Kealy a standout. While, as mentioned, our very own Andrew Mount has drawn Stephen Harris from bettingexpert.com.
Other big names in the event include the six-time Racing Post NAP’s table winner Paul Jacobs. We’ve also got popular commentator Richard Hoilies, brothers Martin and Chris Dixon, plus former Sun Templegate front man Steve Jones.
You can even bet on the head-to-heads over at Star Sports – if you have a strong fancy! Just head over the Star Sports site and you’ll find the match betting markets in their horse racing section, under ‘Specials’.
With any profits from any bets placed on the event going to the Injured Jockeys Fund.
How Will the Star Sports Cheltenham Tipping Competition Work?
The tipster that wants to make it to the next round will obviously have to beat the opponent, which will be decided on a ÂŁ1 level stake basis. With each tipster picking their best bet in ALL the ‘day one’ races – with one contest being nominated as their NAP.
A fictional ÂŁ1 win bet will be placed each of their selections and ÂŁ2 on their NAP. The tipster with the best profit (or loss) at the end of day one will go into the hat for day two.
Therefore, we’ll see 16 tipsters fall at the first on the Tuesday, with the remaining 16 in for the Wednesday action.
Then, off we go again – with a best bet in ALL the ‘day two’ races and a NAP – you get the picture.
On Thursday we’ll be down to the quarter finals and just four matches and onto the grand final on the Friday. Then the ‘STAR SPORTS’ best Tipster for the 2023 Cheltenham Festival will be crowned.
So, who will be king (or queen) of the Festival? You can follow all of the action and results each day on the Starsports.bet site.
Good Luck all!
