It’s bad news for Manchester United fans as Frenkie de Jong says he wants ‘to stay at Barcelona for many more years’. The Dutch midfielder is almost certain to be playing his football in Spain again next season. Fabrizio Romano revealed the latest on Frenkie De Jong

The Barcelona ace almost left his club in the summer, with United and Chelsea seriously interested. However, he never got his move.

Fast-forward almost a year, and De Jong seems adamant he wants to stay at Barca. He played against United in both legs of their Europa League knockout tie, and now has publicly insisted he doesn’t want to move.

Speaking to Catalan radio station RAC1, De Jong was asked: “We will be quiet this summer, right? No Manchester United, no Erik ten Hag?”

He responded, “I’m very calm, happy. I want to stay at Barcelona for many more years.”

It’s not what Man United fans would be wanting to hear, however it does almost put the rumours to bed, so the team can focus on other targets.

De Jong is an integral part of Xavi’s set-up at Barcelona and they currently lead La Liga by nine points, and have only conceded eight goals in the league all campaign.

The Barca coach seemed to have no fears of the star wanting to leave the club, in a recent interview.

“He (De Jong) was very clear with me. He wanted to stay with us (last summer) and there was no doubt,

“Frenkie is our player and I am very happy and satisfied with his performance and leadership. He is in a great moment, like the whole team. I think he is having a good time well on the field, which is the most important thing.”
