Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher believes that Lionel Messi may have played his final Champions League game. This comes after PSG crashed out of the competition after being defeated over two legs by Bayern Munich.

The French giants travelled to the Allianz Arena on Wednesday night as they looked to overturn a 1-0 deficit. However, PSG were beaten 2-0 on the night, as Bayern progressed to the last eight with a 3-0 aggregate win.

It’ll be another year that the Parisians will have to wait to lift the prestigious trophy.

Despite Christophe Galtier’s side having a star-studded attack featuring Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Neymar, they’ve been knocked out at the last-16 for the second season in a row.

Carragher had claimed ahead of the match, that if they lose it could be Messi’s last game in the competition. He was firm with his comments once again at full time, and told CBS Sports: “It could be the last time we see Lionel Messi in the Champions League.”

The Argentine forward has played in the Champions League 163 times, with only Cristiano Ronaldo and Iker Casillas playing more, with 183 and 177 appearances respectively.

Messi has won the competition three times, with old club Barcelona. However, hasn’t lifted the trophy since 2015. The 35-year-old won the UCL in 2009, 2011 and 2015. He was also a regular during the season Barca won it in 2006, but wasn’t in the squad for the final.

Why Could It Be Lionel Messi’s Last UCL Game?

Ever since Messi started playing in the French capital, there’s been rumours of him moving on. There’s been a regular question asked of how long he’ll stay at PSG for, and he could be off in the summer.

His current contract at the club expires in June, and he’s set to pen a new deal.
