Former Liverpool striker Michael Owen believes that reinforcements will help the Reds get back to their best next season, as Jurgen Klopp is ‘not stupid’ when it comes to transfers.
Owen played for the red side of Merseyside from 1996-2004, scoring 158 goals and assisting 47. In 2001 he became the only Englishman to win a Balon D’Or, which earned him a move to Real Madrid a few years later. His relationship with Liverpool supporters dwindled after his move to Manchester United in 2009.
Since retiring the 43-year-old has turned to punditry, with most of his work coming on BT Sport Champions League nights. He has been very vocal about the side he calls his own and in a recent interview he stated that the Reds’ fans should not panic, but instead stick with the manager.
Owen said: “Jurgen Klopp, the ownership, these players – they’ve proven it at the absolute highest level. They’ve won the Champions League, they’ve won the league, they’ve done everything. So I’m not one for thinking ‘everything’s going wrong, let’s rip everything up”.
Despite underperforming for the majority of the season, @themichaelowen thinks it won't be long before we see Liverpool back at the highest level again!

The German manager has made it clear that he would like to strengthen over the summer, with reinforcements in midfield being the biggest priority. The former Liverpool striker stated how he understands that the Reds need to strengthen and Klopp won’t make ‘stupid’ signings.
He said: “Inevitably they will buy players, and Jurgen Klopp is not stupid. He’ll be buying midfield players and it is an ageing midfield, and an area of the pitch they could probably improve. So that will happen, but it’ll happen whether they play well or not for the rest of this season – that’s just the evolution of football.”
Liverpool travel to Madrid next Thursday as they look to turn around the 5-2 defeat they suffered from Los Blancos in the opening leg. Progression in the Champions League would make Klopp’s side far more attractive in the summer and could boost their chances for next season.
