Manchester United host Real Betis in the Europa League round of 16 and kick-off the first leg at Old Trafford this Thursday as Erik ten Hag looks to add a second trophy in his first season as manager.

Manchester United vs Real Betis Preview

Thursday’s Europa League knockout clash is of significant importance to Manchester United, as they look to bounce back from Sunday’s embarrassing 7-0 defeat at the hands of close rivals Liverpool.

The Red Devils advanced to the competition’s round of 16 stage after beating Barcelona 4-3 on aggregate, setting up another trip to Spain for Erik ten Hag’s side.

Real Betis finished top of Group C with Roma, Ludogorets and HJK so have entered this stage as the seeded team, with the second leg in Seville taking place next Thursday at the Benito Villamarin.

United’s defeat at the weekend ended an 11-game win streak across all competitions but can bounce back on an important stage ahead of Southampton’s visit to Manchester on Sunday.

Manchester United vs Real Betis Predictions

The last time United faced off against ‘Los Verdiblancos,’ the Spaniards ran away 1-0 winners in a friendly during the World Cup in December thanks to Nabil Fekir’s second-half winner.

The Premier League giants are overwhelming favourites for good reason and we’re predicting a 2-0 win for Manchester United on Thursday night.

Our Prediction – Manchester United 2-0 @ 6/1

Manchester United vs Real Betis Team News

Anthony Martial, Christian Eriksen and Donny van de Beek are all confirmed absences for United, whilst Erik ten Hag may opt to leave Casemiro on the bench – the Brazilian is one booking away from a suspension which would cause him to miss the second leg.

Victor Lindelof missed the Liverpool defeat with a minor injury and is in line to give either Raphael Varane or Lisandro Martinez a rest if needed.

December’s match-winner Fekir recently underwent knee surgery and will be unavailable for selection, but it appears to be good news for Sergio Canales who is poised to re-join the Betis squad.

Juan Cruz is likely to miss out with injury and manager Manuel Pellegrini will have to be cautious as Claudio Bravo, German Pezzella, Luiz Felipe and Aitor Ruibal are all one booking away from suspension.
