Former Manchester United midfielder Roy Keane has unleashed a furious rant after his former side were on the end of a 7-0 thrashing against Liverpool at Anfield this evening.

Roy Keane was on Sky Sports punditry duty for Manchester United’s shocking 7-0 defeat to Liverpool this evening.

The Red Devils were demolished, thanks to braces from Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah before Roberto Firmino added a seventh.

Speaking on Sky following the full-time whistle, Keane didn’t hold back when it came to criticising his side.

The Irishman labelled the performance and result as “embarrassing” and “shocking”, and said he’d “go into hiding for months” if he’d have lost in such a manner.

Roy Keane’s Comments

“The senior players for Man United – the big players, the ones we give the big build up to, the experienced players – they’re the ones who have really let the club down today. I always imagined if you got beat in a game like this six or seven nil you’d go into hiding.

“As a player you’d go into hiding for a few days. I think I’d go missing for a few months, it really is that embarrassing. But that’s the game, they’ve got to bounce back, they’ve got a big European game coming up.”

Keane continued: “I never thought United were back to their very best. They’ve had some very good results and I’ve been saying recently that United have been giving teams chances, even over the last few weeks. Leicester at home, they probably should have been two nil up at Old Trafford, West Ham should have been two nil up, so they’ve been giving teams chances and teams have let them off the hook.

“The chances they gave up today, Liverpool punished them and that’s where they deserve credit. They created opportunities, they were clinical, they were ruthless, and what I admired about Liverpool was they kept going towards the end for more goals.”

Keane went on to speak about Anfield, and the power it gives Liverpool.

“When United come to Liverpool, whatever the form, all logic goes out the window at Anfield. We’ve said it many times before, it is the hardest place to come as a Manchester United player without a shadow of a doubt, whatever quality you have or form you might be in, and when you go two goals down like that you’ve got to show some sort of pride, fight, spirit, and they didn’t show any of that.

“I’ll go in hard on Manchester United, of course I will, but I also have to say that Liverpool were absolutely amazing. Their energy levels, their quality of play, decision-making, desire. We saw at the end of the game there they were still trying to get bodies in the box, still trying to get more goals – Liverpool were back to their very, very best, like they have done over the last few years. Embarrassing day for United though.”
