What is The Quickest Goal in Premier League History?

Arsenal were shocked by a smash and grab Bournemouth goal this afternoon, with the Cherries racing into a 1-0 lead within nine seconds. In light of what appears to be one of the fastest leads ever witnessed, we are looking at what is the quickest goal in Premier League history.

Bournemouth midfielder Phillip Billing steered in Bournemouth’s opening goal this afternoon after the visitors raced forward in numbers, risking plenty of space for the league leaders to counter should they have won the ball back.

In doing so, they registered the second-quickest goal ever witnessed in the Premier League after netting within 9.11 seconds of the first whistle.

This ranks just behind Shane Long’s 2019 strike, when the Irishman fired Southampton into the lead against Watford within 7.69 seconds.

Quickest Goals in Premier League History

  • Shane Long: 7.69 seconds (Southampton vs Watford, 2019-20)
  • Phillip Billing: 9.11 seconds (Bournemouth vs Arsenal, 2022-23)
  • Ledley King: 9.82 seconds (Tottenham vs Bradford, 2000-01)
  • Alan Shearer: 10.52 seconds (Newcastle vs Manchester City, 2002-03)
  • Christian Eriksen: 10.54 seconds (Tottenham vs Manchester United, 2017-18)

Billing’s strike was eventually in vain as Arsenal claimed the most dramatic of comebacks from 2-0 down, courtesy of a 96th minute Reiss Nelson screamer, to restore their five point cushion at the top of the table.

Manchester City had comfortably swept aside Newcastle with a 2-0 win earlier in the day, and after the Cherries went two goals to the good, the champions would certainly have scarce believed their luck.

It also now leaves Bournemouth in a precarious position at the foot of the table, although Leeds and West Ham also fell to defeat this afternoon against Chelsea and Brighton respectively.
