Ahead of this evening’s Copa del Rey first-leg semi-final between Real Madrid and Barcelona, we’re taking a look at the head-to-head stats between the sides and the results of their last five meetings to get a better look at the fixture.
Playing in the La Liga together, the old rivals Real Madrid and Barcelona know each other very well. They face eachother at least twice a season, typically joined by a further one or two ties in cup competitions too. The pair are first and second in La Liga at the minute, with the Catalan side leading the race for the title by seven points.
Their attentions won’t be on the past or the future come 8 o’clock this evening however, as Real Madrid host the El Clasico in the first-leg of the Copa del Rey semi-final.
Real Madrid Vs Barcelona Head-To-Head Stats
The El Clasico has been played in 251 competitive matches throughout history, as both Real Madrid and Barcelona (joined by Athletic Club) are the only La Liga clubs to have never been relegated.
Across the 251 competitive faceoffs, Real Madrid have won 101, Barcelona have won 98 with 52 draws making up the remaining results.
Their first meeting came in 1902, as FC Barcelona ran out as 3-1 winners over Madrid FC in the 1902 Copa de la Coronacion.

Last time out in January, Barcelona ran riot in the Santiago Bernabeu. Spanish starlets Pedri and Gavi were on the scoresheet for the Blaugrana, joined by Polish international Robert Lewandowski. Karim Benzema netted a late consolation goal as the tie finished 3-1.
The second-last meeting saw the same scoreline as last time out, but reversed. Los Blancos secured a mighty 3-1 La Liga win over their bitter rivals, with Benzema, Federico Valverde and Rodrygo all netting for Carlo Ancelotti’s side.
In March 2022 it was an embarrassing El Clasico defeat for Real Madrid at the Bernabeu. Los Blancos were battered 4-0, thanks to goals from Ronald Araujo, Ferran Torres and a Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang double.
A thrilling Supercopa de Espana encounter in Saudi Arabia back in January of last year saw Real advance to the final of the competition. Benzema and Vinicius Junior scored in normal time for Ancelotti’s side, matched by Barca goals from Ansu Fati and Luuk de Jong. It was Valverde that grabbed the winner, netting a 98th minute extra-time third for Los Blancos.
It’s expected to be a feisty affair this evening. The pair will meet once again later in the month, in the league, before contesting the second-leg at the start of April.
