In the latest Manchester City transfer news, Pep Guardiola’s side are reportedly interested in bringing Mateo Kovacic to the Etihad Stadium.

Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic is subject to interest from Pep Guardiola and Manchester City, according to reports.

The midfielder faces a huge decision in regards to his future, as he is now approaching the final year of his contract at Stamford Bridge.

It is believed that Chelsea are aiming to avoid a situation where Kovacic and several team-mates enter the final year of their deals, as they look to hand out contract extensions.

Kovacic, Mason Mount, Christian Pulisic, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang, Cesar Azpilicueta and Thiago Silva are all approaching the final 12 months of their deals.

City are said to have been alerted by the Croatians contract situation, with Guardiola being a big admirer of the midfielder.

Guardiola’s main target for the summer is Jude Bellingham, however. City have long been linked with a move for the Borussia Dortmund midfielder, but with fierce competition for the youngster, a move for Kovacic may be a serious option for them.

Kovacic produced a stunning performance against City back in January, but fell to a 1-0 defeat. At full-time, Guardiola made a noticeable approach towards the player.

Man City are said to have had an interest in Kovacic back in 2018 before he moved to Stamford Bridge from Real Madrid.

The 28-year-old has enjoyed a successful five year spell in London, after initially joining on loan. He has won five trophies with the Blues – including a Champions League and a Europa League, but notably misses a Premier League title. Could the prospect of winning the Premier League sway the Croatian towards a move to Manchester?
