Former Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor has accused Chelsea’s Kai Havertz of being responsible for the sackings of Frank Lampard and Thomas Tuchel, and fears Graham Potter is next.

Agbonlahor, 36, scored 74 goals in 322 Premier League games for the Villans and has been highly critical of Chelsea’s performance in Sunday’s 2-0 defeat to Spurs.

In 90 minutes against their London rivals, Havertz didn’t register a single shot on target despite leading the line for the Blues amid speculation he could leave the club in the summer.

“Look at [Kai] Havertz, he saw two managers off, he is not doing anything. He is not a number nine or ten, he is not holding the ball up, or even scoring goals.”

The 23-year-old scored the winning goal in Chelsea’s Champions League triumph almost two years ago but has failed to reach the expectations set upon his arrival from Bayer Leverkusen in September 2020.

Havertz cost over £70m and has played 124 games for Chelsea, scoring 29 times with 15 assists in 7,963 minutes on the field.

Sitting in tenth in the Premier League table after 24 games, the 2022/23 campaign hasn’t been a good reflection of new owner Todd Boehly’s lavish spending.

Chelsea are still in the Champions League but head into their round of 16 second leg against Borussia Dortmund with a 1-0 deficit.

Is Kai Havertz’s Career At Chelsea Coming To An End?

This current Chelsea side is due a rebuild, and it appears the German is likely to be rubble afterwards.

Whether or not the Blues are able to recoup anything close to the fee they paid remains to be seen, but Havertz’s market value on Transfermarkt has remained at £70m (last updated November 2022 – it has probably taken a hit since).

He has scored one goal for Chelsea in 2023, coming in a 1-0 win against Crystal Palace in mid-January and is underperforming his xG for the season (6.17) when he has just five in total.

The talent is certainly still there, it’s just a possibility that Chelsea isn’t the right place for Kai Havertz and he needs a new situation.
