Manchester United forward Wout Weghorst is eyeing a quadruple trophy haul for his side after defeating Newcastle United to become Carabao Cup champions yesterday.

Wembley Stadium lay host to yesterday afternoon’s Carabao Cup final, which saw Manchester United be crowned champions after beating Newcastle United 2-0.

It wasn’t to be for the Magpies as their long 68-year wait for a major domestic trophy continues.

First-half goals from Casemiro and Marcus Rashford were enough to secure the title for United – their first piece of silverware since winning the Europa League back in 2017.

The Red Devils won’t just stop there however, as they remain in contention for three other trophies this season.

Erik ten Hag’s side are just eight points behind league-leaders Arsenal, albeit a lengthy gap, a comeback is not out of the question. It would take a major collapse from both Manchester City and Arsenal for United to go top of the Premier League, but stranger things have happened.

United recently advanced to the last-16 of the Europa League as well. A 4-3 aggregate win over Barcelona saw the Red Devils move on to the next round, drawn against fifth place La Liga side Real Betis.

They also remain in the FA Cup, and host West Ham at Old Trafford in the fifth round on Wednesday evening.

Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has previously claimed that the Red Devils are in with a shot of winning the quadruple, but has now been joined by Dutch forward Wout Weghorst in that belief.

Weghorst’s Comments

Speaking to the media after United’s Carabao Cup triumph, Weghorst was questioned on his side’s chances of winning the quadruple.

“Four trophies? One is done, three left,” Weghorst said.

“Of course it’s in the back of your head, there’s a distance now, we’re a few points behind but the belief is absolutely there.

“Yesterday everybody watched the game hoping for a good result for us, so it’s definitely something that’s in the back of our heads.”
