According to UK betting sites, Crystal Palace’s relegation odds have drifted to 12/1 after pulling off a huge Premier League upset with a 0-0 win over a lifeless Liverpool.

As expected, these two under-performing sides got off to a rather cagey start, with both sides struggling to create anything worthwhile. Liverpool’s best chance fell to the returning Diogo Jota, who from 18 yards out struck the ball straight at the Eagles goalkeer.

The home side created very little and were evidently struggling without their star man, Wilfreid Zaha. Their most threatening moment came when Trent Alexander-Arnold underhit his pass to Alisson and Jean-Philippe Mateta latched on, but his shot was off target.

The second-half followed the same tone as the first, both sides struggling to create anything of note. However, The Reds’ leading goalscorer, Mohamed Salah hit the bar with a beautiful curling effort. Substitute Harvey Elliot came close moments later, but his effort was easily saved.

Both teams struggled to create and Palace appeared to settle for a draw, so the match dwindled to an end with neither team finding the back of the net.

Can Palace avoid relegation?

Patrick Vieria’s side are now 12th in the Premier League and are six points above the relegation places. Their lack of goals has proved costly, scoring only 22 goals in 24 matches. Zaha’s injury has exposed their lack of goalscoring options, which may be something they solve in the summer window.

However today’s result will be a sligth positive for supporters, as Palace start to move away from the dreaded relegation zone. The Eagles will be looking to move further away when they face Wolves on Saturday, with both sides still not safe from the drop.

Relegation odds:

Bournemouth @ 1/3

Southampton @ 2/5

Everton @ 6/4

Leeds @ 2/1

Crystal Palace @ 12/1
