Newcastle can win £100k prize money with Carabao Cup final win

Newcastle United can pocket an extra £100,000 in prize money if they beat Manchester United in Sunday’s Carabao Cup final at Wembley.

The Geordies have already earned £132,000 from reaching the final, defeating a number of Premier League sides on the way:

  • Second round: 2-0 vs Tranmere Rovers (Schar, Wilson)
  • Third round: 0-0 vs Crystal Palace (3-2 win on penalties)
  • Fourth round: 1-0 vs Bournemouth (Smith OG)
  • Quarter-final: 2-0 vs Leicester City (Burn, Joelinton)
  • Semi-final first leg: 1-0 vs Southampton (Joelinton)
  • Semi-final second leg: 2-1 vs Southampton (S. Longstaff x2)

If Eddie Howe’s side are defeated by Manchester United at Wembley, they will take home an extra £50,000 instead and leave with a grand total of £182,000 from their Carabao Cup run.

However with victory at Wembley, Newcastle could take their earnings to as much as £232,000 from the competition – which they have never won in the club’s 130-year history.

How much is the Carabao Cup prize money?

There is a total prize pot of £1 million for the Carabao Cup this season with team’s collecting a cheque after each victory and leap into the next round.

  • First round winners – £5,000
  • Second round winners – £7,000
  • Third round winners – £10,000
  • Fourth round winners – £15,000
  • Quarter-finalists – £25,000
  • Semi-finalists – £25,000
  • Runner-up – £50,000
  • Winner – £100,000

Newcastle have played in every round of the Carabao Cup expect the first, meaning with a win on Sunday they will have taken home £232,000 out of a possible £237,000 winnings from the competition.

According to Carabao Cup betting sites, Newcastle will enter the Wembley showdown as underdogs at a price of 12/5 compared to Manchester United floating around evens at 23/20.
