Nathan Jones was relieved of his duties at Southampton after just four months in the job, and now over a week on since his dismissal, the club are yet to appoint his replacement. In the latest odds for the next permanent manager, Ruben Selles has been named the bookies’ favourite.
Nathan Jones had just 14 matches to prove himself at Southampton before being shown the door. His tenure saw an impressive cup victory over Manchester City, but poor results in the league saw his Saints side sit bottom of the league after just one win and nine losses. Premier League betting sites have Southampton as their second favourites to go down, priced at around 4/9, behind favourites Bournemouth.

Recently sacked Leeds United boss Jesse Marsch was tipped to make an instant return to management with the vacant role on the south coast, but talks reportedly broke down after both parties disagreed on the length of the American’s contract.
Other names that had been mentioned were Steven Gerrard, Sam Allardyce, Marcelo Gallardo and Mauricio Pochettino, among many more, but no moves have yet materialised.
The club confirmed that lead coach Ruben Selles would take over on a caretaker basis, but according to the bookies, the Spaniard is now the favourite to take over permanently.
This comes off the back of the Saints’ 1-0 victory over Premier League big-spenders Chelsea, where James Ward-Prowse’s first-half free-kick was enough to secure a vital three points in the battle for survival.
Southampton remain bottom of the Premier League table, but are now just three points from safety after Saturday afternoon’s triumph.
