Ahead of Barcelona vs Manchester United, former midfielder and BT Sport pundit Paul Scholes claimed that Casemiro is the closest thing to Roy Keane that he’s seen.

Five-time Champions League winner Casemiro joined Manchester United from Real Madrid in the summer, and has already won over the hearts of most of the fanbase.

He’s consistently been one of United’s best performers this term, alongside Marcus Rashford and Lisandro Martinez.

The Brazil international had missed the previous two matches before United’s Europa League tie against Barcelona, as he is serving a three-match ban for a red-card against Crystal Palace.

United are yet to lose a match when Casemiro has started with fellow fan-favourite Bruno Fernandes, which shows just how important he has already become at Old Trafford.

Paul Scholes’ Comments

Ahead of the Red Devils’ Europa League play-off first-leg tie, former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes was full of praise for the 30-year-old.

“You can see the big difference when he’s not in the team. You think of the Arsenal game when he wasn’t there,” he said.

“I always think about having a coach on the football pitch – almost being the manager on the pitch. For Ten Hag, he’s that man. He knows where he wants everybody to be.

“I’ve said this before, I’m a little bit surprised by the quality of his play, at Madrid it was all about Kroos and Modric. His passes forward, his awareness of people around him, he’s been fantastic.

“People say he’s a holding midfield player – I don’t see that. I think he does everything. He’s as close to Roy Keane as I’ve seen.”

“As a Man United midfield player, you should be involved in everything. You should be able to play it forward, you should be able to play it past, and defend.” he continued.

Casemiro created six successful put-throughs throughout United’s 2-2 draw at Camp Nou. No player has created more in a single Europa League game this season.

Manchester United host Leicester City in the Premier League at the weekend, as Casemiro serves the final match of his suspension.

Premier League betting sites have the Red Devils as favourites to be victorious, priced at around 8/13 to win.
