Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has provided an update on the injuries within his Reds squad, ahead of their Premier League tie away at Newcastle on Saturday evening.
The Reds won their first Premier League game of 2023 in midweek, as they defeated bitter rivals Everton 2-0 in the Merseyside derby.

They’ll be looking to build on the victory against Sean Dyche’s side, but face a tough task at St James’ Park against high-flying Newcastle United.
Thiago Alcantara, Luis Diaz, Arthur Melo, Ibrahima Konate and Calvin Ramsay all missed out on the derby victory, as Virgil van Dijk, Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino all returned to the squad – being named on the bench.
Jurgen Klopp’s Comments
Jota and Firmino were both introduced as late substitutes, with Klopp highlighting the importance of their returns.
“It was important but they need the time. We tried to allow them some minutes as early as possible. Whatever you do in training, the first 10-15 minutes of a game feel like torture.”
Klopp revealed that all of Monday’s absentees will remain out for the trip up north to Newcastle.
“Same squad as Monday night. Ibou (Konate) not yet, Luis (Diaz) not yet. But that’s it pretty much. Nothing happened on injury side. Thiago (Alcantara) out. Calvin (Ramsay) had surgery, not available.”

It’s bad news for Liverpool fans on Ramsay’s injury, as Klopp confirmed that the young Scot will miss the rest of the campaign.
“I’ve heard he will miss the rest of the season. Calvin arrived here and had a back problem I’d never heard of before, in a growing process it can happen. He had no pain but couldn’t train for a long period.” he said.
“He had no chance – then he came back into a new team – he didn’t train for four months – he is a great talent, a real talent who had the most unlucky start possible.”
There is good news on the van Dijk front however, as the German boss confirmed that the Dutchman looks ready to start after returning from injury.
“Yesterday (in training), he looked absolutely ready (to start).”
