Former Arsenal footballer and Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson believes that Arsenal’s clash against Manchester City is ‘make or break’ for their Premier League title hopes.

Paul Merson: “I’d be quite shocked if Arsenal went and won that game”

Arsenal’s lead at the top of the Premier League is just three points and with victory on Wednesday night at the Emirates, Manchester City can go top of the table on goal difference.

Paul Merson believes that the encounter is ‘make or break’ for the Gunners and thinks it’s unlikely they can go on to win the league with defeat in north London.

“It’s a massive football match. I think it’s make or break. If Man City go and win the game, I don’t see Arsenal coming back from that. I don’t see them beating Man City on Wednesday.

“I’d be quite shocked. They were so open at the back [against Brentford]. Played 2v2 at the back.

“If Brentford had picked the right pass at times they’d have got in and won that game.

“Ivan Toney misses a real good chance where he hits the bar and Man City have a better quality of player to pick that right pass.

“Come Wednesday night I’d be quite shocked if Arsenal went and won that game.”

According to Premier League betting sites, Manchester City will enter the match as favourites as Pep Guardiola looks to steer the Citizens to a third straight title.

Whilst City could go top with a win, Arsenal hold a game in hand over their opponents. The next meeting between the pair after tonight is March 24.

There have been rumours regarding Thomas Partey’s availability for the match who would likely be replaced by Fabio Vieira in midfield – or Mikel Arteta could hand a first start to new signing Jorginho.
