Erling Haaland Holds Dismal Away Record Against the Premier League ‘Big’ Six

Mikel Arteta and Arsenal will have traipsed through endless footage of Manchester City in preparation for their hotly-anticipated title clash this evening, but they may take an ounce of comfort in Erling Haaland’s dismal away record against the ‘big’ six.

You would be forgiven if you may not have noticed this surprising trend, with Manchester City‘s number nine firing in a barrage of goals this season to already surpass last year’s Golden Boot-winning tally.

His 25 Premier League goals have helped City become the division’s most potent attacking team yet again, but when dissecting where and who he has scored the goals against, a surprising anomaly appears that the Arsenal faithful will be hoping to perpetuate.

Haaland has played all but one of the rest of the so called ‘big’ six teams in England, with the Gunners the last of the bunch to attempt to stop him in the league – they did so successfully in the FA Cup towards the end of January, only to be dumped out by a surprise Nathan Ake goal.

Throughout these matches, the Norwegian has a grand total of zero goals and zero assists to his name away from home, while he was limited to five touches and under in the opposition box against United, Chelsea and Tottenham.

It is also worthwhile noting that 72% of his 25 goals thus far have come at the Etihad, with just seven coming on the road. Of course, that type of home and away ratio is fairly typical, but the sizeable gap makes for an eyebrow-raising stat heading into this evening’s game.

Pep Guardiola’s men also rank all the way down in sixth when solely taking into account away results, scoring just 15 times on the road.
