VAR certainly didn’t have its best weekend in the latest round of Premier League games, with a huge error leading to Brentford’s equaliser against Arsenal taking a lot of the headlines, and Mikel Arteta has insisted that it wasn’t a human error.
The PGMOL have since said that the goal was allowed due to human error, with Lee Mason making the huge mistake on VAR duty.
The Gunners were incredibly hard done by as Ivan Toney’s goal was allowed to stand after a lengthy VAR review. The review that was shown on screen was over one phase of play, but not the other in which Brentford’s Christian Norgaard was offside.
Arteta has not been afraid to speak his mind and says “I will only be satisfied if they give me the two points back”.

The PGMOL released a statement after a weekend to forget for Premier League officiating, with a huge blunder also coming in the Brighton vs Crystal Palace game, in which Pervis Estupinan’s goal was ruled offside.
“PGMOL can confirm its Chief Refereeing Officer Howard Webb has contacted both Arsenal and Brighton & Hove Albion to acknowledge and explain the significant errors in the VAR process in their respective Premier League fixtures on Saturday.
“Both incidents, which were due to human error and related to the analysis of offside situations, are being thoroughly reviewed by PGMOL.”
Arteta was quizzed on PGMOL’s response and he said “that wasn’t human error, that was a big not understanding of your job, and that’s not acceptable.”
