The Premier League have confirmed this weekend’s match officials, as Lee Mason is dropped after his blunder in Arsenal’s draw against Brentford.

Lee Mason was the VAR for Arsenal‘s draw at home against Brentford at the weekend, and allowed Ivan Toney’s controversial equaliser to stand despite claims of offside.

Replays of the equaliser showed Christian Norgaard standing in an offside position prior to crossing to Toney for the Bees’ leveller.

The PGMOL, who are responsible for the Premier League’s referees, have since conceded that the goal was allowed due to human error, with Mason being said to have forgotten to draw the correct lines when looking at the build-up play for the goal.

In response, the PGMOL have not assigned Mason to a Premier League match this weekend.

Mason was previously dropped by the Premier League this season after a similar error in relation to drawing offside lines in September 2022.

He was the lead VAR official for Crystal Palace’s trip to St James’ Park, where he disallowed a Newcastle goal incorrectly.

This comes after the removal of John Brooks from the Merseyside derby and Wednesday’s tie between Arsenal and Manchester City.

Brooks was the lead VAR official when a high-profile error was made in Crystal Palace’s draw against Brighton. Pervis Estupinan’s goal was disallowed for a supposed offside, but it was later confirmed that the offside lines had been put in the wrong place and that Estupinan was actually onside.

The PGMOL have confirmed Brooks will return at the weekend however, as he takes up the role of 4th official for Aston Villa vs Arsenal on Saturday.
