Maguire made a return to the starting eleven against Leeds United yesterday at Elland Road. It was just his fifth Premier League start of the season, a sad sign of his place in Ten Hag’s thinking despite his captaincy.
With Lisandro Martinez suspended for Thursday’s massive game against Barcelona in the Europa League, he may start once again.
Despite this, it looks increasingly likely that he’ll be on his way out of the club this summer.
Chris Wheeler of the Daily Mail broke the news that Maguire is still expected to leave this summer.

Who Will Sign Maguire?
Despite the dip in club in the past two seasons, Maguire has still been in fine form internationally. He was a main part of England’s recent World Cup run to the quarter-finals. His international status will certainly be an attractive incentive to potential suitors.
Aston Villa are top of the list of the teams chasing his signature this summer. Villa have come good under manager Unai Emery. Signing a player with the experience the soon to be 30-year-old Maguire has will be of interest to Villa.
Another potential option for Maguire is Newcastle United. The Toon are a club reborn after their takeover last season. Under Eddie Howe this season they’re in the EFL Cup final and in the top four of the Premier League. They’ve got a great core team but could do with more depth in the team. Maguire’s experience will certainly be a bonus to them as they’ve got a potential European adventure on their hands next season.
Other potential suitors include Tottenham and Chelsea. The latter have made big moves in the recent transfer markets so it seems unlikely they’ll be tempted to sign Maguire.
