Pep Guardiola’s side saw their title chances increase after beating Aston Villa 3-1, with odds being slashed to 11/10, according to UK betting sites.

As Arsenal dropped points in their 1-1 draw with Brentford yesterday, a win for the blue side of Manchester was vital. Goals from Rodri, Ilkay Gundogan and Riyad Mahrez gave the Cityzens the victory and narrowed the gap on Arsenal to just three points.

City started the game superbly as Rodri headed home from a corner in the opening five minutes. They dominated the remainder of the half and Gundogan made it two after some relentless work from Erling Haaland. Jack Grealish was brought down in the box against his former side and Riyad Mahrez converted to put city 3-0 up.

The second half followed a different tone to the first, as around the hour mark Ollie Watkins pulled one back for the visitors. Besides a nervy last 10 minutes, City were comfortable for the rest of the half and coasted to a well-earned victory.

Goal scorer Rodri was pleased with the performance and commented on what has been a difficult week for the current champions.

Man City’s next match is the match that the world has been waiting for, as they welcome Premier League leaders, Arsenal. The two-sides are yet to meet in the league this season and Guardiola will be hoping to get the better of his former assistant.

Premier League winners odds:
