Several of the other hold-up horses from that Class 6 contest have done well since, with the third, seventh and eighth all scoring at the next time of asking. Since fitted with a tongue-tie, Rainbow Sign’s course record reads 119 (2-3) and he’s worth chancing to small stakes on his return to a longer trip. In recent years, Alastair Ralph has shown a profit with chase debutants who go straight into handicap company rather than take the novice/beginners chase route and his seven-year-old RISK D’ARGENT was all the rage for a two-mile handicap chase at Hereford on January 30th, going off as the 100-30 favourite having been 16-1 and bigger the night before. His connections had identified a weak race but, unfortunately for them, Risk D’Argent had never raced right-handed before and clearly hated it, jumping out to his left throughout. It was obvious after three or four fences that he wasn’t going to be involved at the business end and he did well to complete the course given the amount of ground his wayward jumping cost him, coming home 34 lengths behind the winner in ninth place. That run his easily forgiven and he looks worthy of support now returned to a left-handed track. Buy in the Spreadex 50-25-10 market or take a fixed odds price.

NEWBURY 4.10
ARQOOB is 14lb behind market leader RUSSIAN RULER according to RPRs (Racing Post Ratings) but remains open to plenty of improvement after his encouraging hurdles-debut second at Huntingdon last month. He went out to his left at one or two of the jumps that day and will appreciate the switch to a left-handed venue. He clocked a good time (according to Proform’s ratings) and today’s good to firm going will suit. Buy in the Spreadex 50-25-10 market or take a fixed odds price.
