My go-to system for this venue is to back Donald McCain-trained handicap hurdlers, especially those who’d last raced between one and 28 days ago. Since the beginning of 2011, McCain is 41 from 123 (33.3% strike-rate) on this angle for a huge profit of £137.07 to a £1 level stake at SP. HIDALGO DE L’ISLE will appreciate the quickish going on his handicap debut and is preferred to stablemate Barnabas Collins.
BANGOR 3.25
WASPY (system – Donald McCain, non-handicap hurdles Bangor)
Since the beginning of 2011, Donald McCain has a 71 from 246 record in non-handicap hurdles at Bangor (29% strike-rate) for a profit of £56.58 to a £1 level stake at SP (expected winners = 54). When Brian Hughes is riding that strike-rate improves to 46% (26 winners from 57 runners, +£19.37). Point winner WASPY finished a creditable third at Wetherby on his Rules/hurdles debut and is likely to appreciate today’s better ground.
CHELSMFORD 8.15
SEND IN THE CLOUDS (system – Tony Carroll, Chelmsford, stall 1)
Generally speaking, it is an advantage to be drawn on the inside rail at Chelmsford and Tony Carroll has a solid record with his stall 1 runners, scoring with nine of the 37 qualifiers for a profit of £37.30. Eleven of the beaten horses finished second or third and SEND IN THE CLOUDS, who looks set to encounter the required strong pace, is likely to prove hard to keep out of the first three.
