RED ROMEO (system – Midnight Legend chasers, February to June)
We’re now at the time of year when chase progeny of the sire Midnight Legend tend to hit peak form and, since 2005, simply backing all 1322 runners between February and June would have found 239 winners (18.1% strike-rate) and a profit of £249.82 to a £1 level stake at SP. Max Dynamo was a 14-1 winner for this column on the same angle last week and it’s interesting to see that RED ROMEO has already been supported at big prices for Southwell’s opener. He was pulled up on his debut for Ben Case last time but that was when 80-1 for a novice hurdle and he might do better now switched to fences and fitted with a first-time tongue-tie.
SOUTHWELL 2.05
HERE WE HAVE IT (system – Lauran Morgan chasers)
Laura Morgan has a fantastic record with her chasers and backing them blind would have found 72 winners from 335 bets (21.5% strike-rate) for a profit of £122.50 to the usual £1 stake. HERE WE HAVE IT, who displayed a willing attitude when scoring over course and distance last time, is taken to follow up.
KEMPTON 8.00
RAINBOW DREAMER (system – small field)
RAINBOW DREAMER turned ten this year but the veteran is still a capable performer on the all-weather, especially when given a small field. When running on synthetics in single-figure line-ups his record reads 11111321421712 (8-13) for a profit of £30.95 to a £1 level stake at SP. He was a 10-1 course winner on his penultimate start and is taken to reverse recent Southwell form with Berkshire Rocco.
