HURRICANE BAY (system – course direction)
Conditional jockey Eddie Edge probably went too hard on 2-1 favourite HURRIANCE BAY when that one was only third at Huntingdon last time (the winner, runner-up, fourth and fifth came from midfield or further back) though Lucy Wadham’s seven-year-old looked ill at ease on the right-handed track, hanging to his left, and that may also have been a factor in his defeat. His record left-handed reads 3321 (1-4), with the win at this venue, and he looks certain to appreciate the step up to three miles for the first time.

HOMETOWN HERO (system – Dan Skelton, first-time cheekpieces)
Dan Skelton horses who disappoint, finishing fifth or worse, often bounce back to score at the next time of asking if fitted with first-time cheekpieces. This system has thrown up 17 winners from 77 bets (22.1%) for a profit of £43.13 to a £1 level stake at SP. Over fences only, the score is nine from 29 (31%) for a profit of £26.25. HOMETOWN HERO was reportedly never travelling when pulled up at Market Rasen last time and might do better with the headgear applied.

CAP DU NORD (system – Christian Williams, long travellers)
Christian Williams does well with horses he sends 200+ miles from his Welsh base and CAP DU NORD has form figures under these conditions of 1113133 (4-7), suggesting each-way claims in the Sky Bet Handicap Chase. He jumped poorly when third of 16 in this race last year but the smaller field will help and he’s 4lb lower this time around.
