With the jumps abandoned, it’s been difficult to find value bets today but this 5f handicap at Wolverhampton looks very playable. This winter (since the beginning of November) simply backing all Wolverhampton handicap runners drawn between stalls 2 and 8, who had one of the top three last-time-out speed figures (according to Proform’s ratings) would have found 68 winners from 321 bets (21.2% strike-rate) and made a profit of £71.77 to a £1 level stake at SP. That’s a very healthy return, given that there are multiple qualifiers in most races. The expected winners, based on their prices, was just over 52). SPANISH ANGEL, Boom The Groom and Glorious Charmer all qualify in this 5f handicap with the first-named preferred. Ruth Carr’s six-year-old was only fifth when favourite for a similar course and distance contest last time but was trapped wide and is best judged on his earlier short-head second (also over course and distance) to Kim Wexler, a winner again since.
