One True King made all the running to prevail by a nose from Royal Pretender (‘tracked leader’) in the six-runner 2m7f Class 3 handicap hurdle at Market Rasen in late March but it was the performance of one-length third DEL DUQUE that caught the eye. Ridden patiently as per usual, Olly Murphy’s seven-year-old made a mistake at the second last before staying on strongly. Both his wins have come in big fields (14 and 13 ran) and today’s 16-runner line-up will play to his strengths. Buy in the Spreadex 50-30-20-10 market or back each-way at 10-1 in the fixed odds betting.

WORCESTER STARTING PRICES
Aggregate SPs only made up at 32.4 at this meeting in 2017 and 30.5 in 2018 but we’ve had plenty of shocks more recently, with winners at 33-1 and 20-1 helping the total on to 86 in 2019 and, last year (there was no meeting in 2020 because of COVID), winners at 50-1, 20-1 and 12-1 contributed to a total of 104.9. Big-priced winners are common at Worcester, especially over hurdles, as some fancied horses simply fail to take to the fixed-brush style obstacles. In three of the four previous seasons we could have bet every runner at exchange SP and made a profit (+£259.08 in 2017, +£346.23 in 2018 and +£76.92 in 2021) and the loss in 2019 was only a small one (-£11.16). We often see horses with previous Worcester form return to their best after below par efforts at more conventional tracks and there are several likely candidates today. Buy at 51.
