The Importance of Royal Ascot Tips Today

In terms of horse racing tips, Royal Ascot is the most important event of the British Flat season. For five days in the middle of June, the best thoroughbred racehorses come to the Berkshire track and compete in front of royalty. There is an air of pomp and circumstance to this meeting like no other. With seven races per day, there are a lot of Royal Ascot tips out there too.

It isn’t just horses from the UK and Ireland involved either. Runners from mainland Europe trained in countries like France and Germany, across the Atlantic in the USA and even as far away as Australia have been to Royal Ascot in search of victory. The event is certainly more international in scope than the Cheltenham Festival and other major British meetings.

Royal Ascot tips today have grown into their prominent position as this horse racing gala became more and more important. Ascot Racecourse and by extension the royal meeting owe a lot to Queen Anne who, in the early Eighteenth Century, thought the heath where the track as we know it today is looked ideal for racing horses on. It’s a short ride from Windsor Castle.

Both Royal Ascot itself and the tradition of a royal procession developed from there in the first quarter of the Nineteenth Century. The programme of events including a fifth day are all recent innovations. Anyone cover the meeting as a whole now gives 35 Royal Ascot racing tips – a challenge for even the most hardened tipsters.

Royal Ascot Tips 2024

Royal Ascot tips

As noted above, there are five days’ worth of Royal Ascot predictions to make and tips to ponder. There is a lot going on at the meeting, and not just on the track either. A strict dress code is in place for racegoers with men expected to wear morning dress in certain enclosures. A hat or millinery of some description is part of women’s attire.

While SportsLens Royal Ascot tips don’t cover the fashion, they certainly look at the horses. There’s a mid-afternoon start to each and every day of the meeting. After all, it’s the British summer and, even if the weather doesn’t always play ball, it is light well into the evening during June.

Every day of Royal Ascot has at least one Group 1 race on the racecards and schedule. This is the highest level of competition in the European Pattern of Flat thoroughbred horse racing. We’ll deal with each of these in turn below, taking you through all five days of the meeting. This is so you know which Royal Ascot tips apply to certain days. Let’s take a look at all of those one by one.

Royal Ascot Day 1 Tips

All Royal Ascot tips for Tuesday, the opening day of the meeting, must consider horses running on both the straight and round courses. The opening Group 1 and traditional curtain raiser of the meeting, the Queen Anne Stakes, is run on the straight course over a mile. This event for older horses is a much stiffer test than the round mile, because there is no bend.

In the St James’s Palace Stakes later on, the top three-year-old colts often including the 2000 Guineas and/or Irish 2000 Guineas winners from the previous month take part. Those victorious in the first British Classic have already run over a straight mile at Newmarket. The Irish 2000 Guineas course at The Curragh includes a bend, however, so horses that raced there may have an advantage.

Also among Royal Ascot Tuesday tips is the King’s Stand Stakes for sprinters. Three-year-olds receive a handy 7lb weight for age for their elders, yet have a poor recent record in the race despite that allowance. Only three from the younger age bracket have won this since 1999.

Fans of National Hunt horse racing can expect to see some familiar names contesting the Ascot Stakes. One of the top Royal Ascot day 1 tips is to look at the Flat rating in comparison to how these horses are handicapped over jumps. Since being introduced to the royal meeting, meanwhile, the Copper Horse Handicap has become a useful trial for the valuable Ebor Handicap at York.

Inspiral, Queen Anne Stakes, 2023 Royal Ascot Day 1 (2:30)

Inspiral has posted her best form on quick ground, so looks the value bet taking on the boys in the Queen Anne on the opening day of Royal Ascot this year. The Gosden stable landed this Group 1 for older milers for the first time in 2021 with Palace Pier.

In Inspiral, they have a 120-rated filly on their hands who was most impressive against her own sex when landing the Coronation Stakes on the Round mile first time up here 12 months ago. A 3lb gender allowance means she comes out clear of the field on adjusted ratings.

The main danger is consistent colt and Lockinge winner Modern Games. Another suited by fast ground, Charlie Appleby & William Buick have enjoyed successful transatlantic raids to America with this Godolphin-owned four-year-old.

Modern Games is a race-fit rival on Inspiral’s plate, but was beaten on his only career outing at Ascot in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes over course and distance last autumn. The ante post favourite is thus opposable.

If you’re a punter looking for each way value in the Queen Anne, then three-time course victor Chindit may provide the angle. Kept in training with the Richard Hannon yard as a five-year-old, he chased home Modern Games at Newbury on his latest outing.

Chindit landed last season’s Group 2 Summer Mile on the Round course but has enhanced his track record further with success in the official Queen Anne Trial, the Paradise Stakes, over course and distance this spring.

Chaldean, St James's Palace Stakes, Royal Ascot 2023 Day 1 (4:20)

2000 Guineas hero Chaldean can underline his Rowley Mile Classic victory by following-up in the St James’s Palace Stakes on the Round course during the opening day of Royal Ascot (4:20). Trained by Andrew Balding for Juddmonte, the Frankel colt is already a dual Group 1 winner.

Chaldean bounced back from his Classic Trial mishap on reappearance by confirming all the promise of his Dewhurst Stakes success last autumn by capturing the big one at Newmarket. The runner-up also hit the frame in the Irish 2000 Guineas, so that adds substance to the form. Chaldean has won on better ground, so a quick surface here holds no fears.

Rapidly progressing Aidan O’Brien colt Paddington is the obvious danger, although the likes of Cicero’s Gift and French 2000 Guineas runner-up Isaac Shelby will also fancy their chances. In just a couple of months this spring, the son of Siyouni has gone from handicapper to Classic winner.

Heavy going at Naas, and soft, yielding and better ground at the Curragh have all come alike to Paddington. He led home a 1-2 for Ballydoyle in the Irish 2000 Guineas, but that race in the Emerald Isle may lack the depth of the English equivalent. It’d be no surprise, however, if Paddington took another step forward.

While O’Brien holds a record eight wins in the St James’s Palace Stakes, the yard with the best recent performance is the Gosden stable who have three victories in the last nine years. That means Shadwell Estates’ striking grey colt Mostabshir also enters calculations. Although only fifth in the Craven on reappearance, he showed plenty of ability when bolting up in a York novice under topweight by five lengths.

The runner-up and fourth home on the Knavesmire have both won since, so that adds substance to the form. Mostabshir’s performance certainly impressed the handicapper, who gave him a 14lb hike in the weights. Given that he also holds an early closing entry in the Sussex Stakes at Glorious Goodwood, the Gosden team may be keen to test their charge against the best three-year-old milers here.

Ruling Dynasty E/W

Postileo E/W

Ruling Dynasty E/W, Copper Horse Handicap, Royal Ascot 2023 Day 1 (6:10)

It could pay to look beyond favourite Vauban in the concluding 1m 6f Copper Horse Handicap that brings day one of Royal Ascot to a close (6:10). The least exposed runner in the line-up, Ruling Dynasty, looks a potential improver and each way value.

Trained by Charlie Appleby for Godolphin, this lightly-raced four-year-old Night Of Thunder gelding bolted up at Haydock earlier this month. Ruling Dynasty won eased down by 6 1/2 lengths in impressive style. An opening mark of 97 on this, his handicap debut, may not be beyond him.

Irish master handler Willie Mullins definitely holds a strong hand here with Vauban and Absurde. The latter is unexposed over this trip on the Flat and should come on for a successful stable bow when landing a 2m 4f novice hurdle at Killarney last month.

Absurde now gets the services of Frankie Dettori in the saddle. Both he and Vauban have top jockeys booked, but it’s been over a year now since the favourite has obliged. It’d be no surprise if the two Mullins mounts both had a say in the finish.

Of those at bigger odds, and considering Point King looks as though he could have the Melbourne Cup as a long-term target, Postileo can go well. Roger Varian’s six-year-old Galileo gelding didn’t stay the Ascot Stakes trip on this card two years ago, but has won both of his subsequent races.

Postileo would welcome any rain that hits Ascot ahead of the Royal meeting, but is another lightly-raced for his age and in-form type. He defied a 562-day racecourse absence and landed the Buttonhook Handicap over 1m 5f at Hamilton Park. A 3lb rise looks fair, so Postileo could hit the frame with most bookies paying five places on this race.

Royal Ascot Day 2 Tips

The first big Heritage Handicap on the track is one of the highlights to look out for with Royal Ascot tips on Wednesday of the meeting. In the Royal Hunt Cup, there is always a cavalry charge up the straight mile. The draw can be all important in races with big fields like this one.

Among the horse racing results and Royal Ascot day 2 tips to follow carefully on this card is the Queen’s Vase. When won by a colt, this three-year-olds only race has proved an informative trial for the final British Classic, the St Leger at Doncaster. This is because of the similar distance of both races. Ascot Gold Cup horses of the future have also run in the Queen’s Vase, so pay attention for the long haul.

Older fillies and mares also tackle the straight mile in the Duke Of Cambridge Stakes but the feature contest is the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes. This is the first Group 1 middle-distance race over 10 furlongs of the British Flat season. Open to older horses, it’s a logical target for those who won the Gordon Richards Stakes or Brigadier Gerard Stakes in the UK and Tattersalls Gold Cup in Ireland.

Prosperous Voyage E/W, Duke Of Cambridge Stakes, Royal Ascot 2023 Day 2 (3:40)

Fast ground is key to the prospects of Prosperous Voyage, so she looks a bit of each way value for the fillies and mares only Group 2 Duke Of Cambridge Stakes on day two of Royal Ascot this year (3:40). Trained by Ralph Beckett, this four-year-old daughter of Zoffany stunned the mighty Inspiral at the highest level when causing an upset in the Falmouth Stakes during Newmarket’s July Festival last summer.

Under the terms of this race, Prosperous Voyage escapes a Group 1 penalty for that. A wide draw when down the field in the Coronation Stakes on the Round course here 12 months ago may not been ideal for her. On the pick of her from, and off the back of a Group 3 win at Epsom last time out, Prosperous Voyage can have a say in the finish of this Straight mile contest.

While John and Thady Gosden have a strong hand among early closing entries, the Irish contingent also have claims. Joseph O’Brien recruit Jumbly could well come on for her stable debut when runner-up in this grade at the Curragh last time out. This four-year-old Gleneagles filly delivered on Ascot’s Round course with Group 3 Valiant Stakes success when in the care of Harry and Roger Charlton.

Jumbly needed every yard of the trip to get up, so a stiffer test of stamina on the Straight mile here should be suitable. Her owner companion Grande Dame looks best of the rest with Laurel defecting from the race.

In a typically competitive renewal of the Duke Of Cambridge, there’ll be no hiding place for the Gosden filly who has yet to win a Group race. Grande Dame hit the frame in the Atlanta Stakes and behind old rival Fonteyn in the Sun Chariot on her latest outing.

My Prospero, Prince Of Wales's Stakes, Royal Ascot 2023 Day 2 (4:20)

After two fast-finishing placed efforts at Ascot last year, My Prospero can make it third time lucky at the track in the feature race on day two of the Royal meeting, the 1m 2f Group 1 Prince Of Wales’s Stakes (4:20). Trained by William Haggas, this four-year-old Iffraaj colt definitely wants this trip. For evidence of that, look no further than his reappearance effort when keeping on into fourth in the Lockinge.

My Prospero simply couldn’t go the pace over a mile at Newbury, so the extra couple of furlongs here is much more like it. Held just half-a-length in the Champion Stakes over course and distance in autumn, he has been threatening to strike at the top level for some time now. Granted better luck in-running, My Prospero is definitely the value bet in the Prince Of Wales this year.

Duking it out for favouritism in the race, meanwhile, are Irish raider Luxembourg and Godolphin’s 2021 Epsom Derby hero Adayar. The powerful connections of the latter seem hellbent on enhancing this five-year-old son of Frankel’s commercial prospects at stud when his career on the track ends. That means getting a top-level mile-and-a-quarter race into Adayar.

This isn’t an easy assignment for trainer Charlie Appleby. Adayar has twice tried and failed to win the Champion Stakes over course and distance, finishing runner-up on both occasions. The form of his rearranged Gordon Richards win over subsequent Group 1 scorer Anmaat from Newmarket reads well, however. Adayar seems a more reliable and consistent type than Luxembourg.

Speaking of the Irish raider, there was just half-a-length between him and last year’s Prince Of Wales runner-up Bay Bridge in the Tattersalls Gold Cup the last day. It makes Sir Michael Stoute’s charge a solid each way bet while 5/1 is available. Bay Bridge bested Adayar over course and distance in the autumn to capture the Champion Stakes.

Stoute has won this race twice in recent years with five-year-olds, so that adds to the claims of his runner in this edition. Bay Bridge may be best on home soil after placing in a couple of overseas assignments in France and the Emerald Isle. All indications are, based on the ante post betting anyway, this is a four-horse race with double figure prices bar the quartet at the top of the market.

Gregory, Queen's Vase, Royal Ascot 2023 Day 2 (5:35)

Gregory looks a typical rapidly progressive three-year-old with St Leger credentials for the Gosden stable, so appeals to land one of the best trials for the final Classic of the year, the 1m 6f Queen’s Vase on day two of Royal Ascot (5:35). This three-year-old Golden Horn colt out of a Galileo mare has the stamina laden pedigree for both assignments.

What little there is to assess Gregory on suggests he’ll be even better when tackling this longer trip. After a promising Haydock novice victory on debut in April, he followed-up in Listed company at Goodwood. Gregory still ran very green but eventually mastered his rivals in the final furlong of the Cocked Hat Stakes to score by three lengths. The extra three furlongs here promise to suit.

There are plenty of dangers, but chief among them on pedigree alone is Tower Of London. One of four entered in the contest by Aidan O’Brien, this colt is a full brother to the likes of Brazil, Passion, Cypress Creek and Capri. It’s the latter, a St Leger winner no less, that underlines this breeding is ideal for this test.

Tower Of London ran on well and justified favouritism when landing the King George V Cup at Leopardstown when last in action. He must build on that effort, but this family does stay well and it’s tried and tested bloodline of his Coolmore connections. It’d be no surprise if Tower Of London took another step forward, but isn’t so unexposed as Gregory.

Chesspiece landed a 1m 4f York handicap quite nicely when last in action, so could yet prove himself better than that. He’s a definite each way angle to consider for the Queen’s Vase at double figure odds. Trained by the Crisford stable, this Nathaniel colt gave 9lb and a beating to re-opposing rival Land Legend on the Knavesmire.

Off the back of that display carrying topweight, Chesspiece is well worth a crack at this level. He handled quick ground at York just fine and James Doyle, who partnered him at Newbury when third on reappearance, is booked to take over in the saddle again. Chesspiece is a contender capable of stepping up in grade.

Royal Ascot Day 3 Tips

We’ll have more on the Gold Cup below but there are three handicaps among the Royal Ascot tips for Thursday, the middle day of the meeting. The Britannia Stakes is the best known with three-year-olds up to a certain official rating competing on the straight mile. Again, look carefully through yesterday’s racing results and from the first day of the royal meeting and see if you can identify a draw bias in your search for the winner.

There is also another three-year-olds only handicap in the King George V Stakes, but this is on the round course over almost a mile-and-a-half. That distance is also used in yet another age restricted race, the Ribblesdale Stakes for fillies. Because only three-year-olds take part in that as well, it is often seen as Royal Ascot’s equivalent of The Oaks at Epsom. Some fillies even run in both races despite the short turnaround time.

Royal Ascot Thursday tips to consider also include the Hampton Court Stakes. Three-year-olds can’t run in the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes over the same distance on the previous day, so this acts a stepping stone en route to a clash with their elders in the Eclipse at Sandown in July.

Obviously, most Royal Ascot day 3 tips centre on the Gold Cup. It’s one of the most important horse races for the breeding of future National Hunt racehorses alongside the St Leger. This is worth special attention and a detailed look on its own below. The Buckingham Palace Stakes over seven furlongs is the last of the handicaps on the card, meanwhile.

Bertinelli E/W, King George V Stakes, Royal Ascot Day 3 (3:05)

Topweight Bertinelli may well in time prove much better than a handicapper, and he can demonstrate that in the 1m 4f King George V Stakes for three-year-olds on Ladies Day at Royal Ascot (3:05). Trained by Aidan O’Brien, this Justify colt needed every yard to land his UK bow over 1m 2f at Newbury the last day.

Although up 5lb for a neck success there, Bertinelli has shaped as though he could be even better over further. The yard won this in 2019, so Ryan Moore’s mount can go in again. Bookies pay extra place on this race, so make sure you back Bertinelli each way.

Of those at the head of a wide-open betting market, Burglar is a handicap debutant off an opening mark of 92. Trained by John and Thady Gosden for Anthony Oppenheimer, this Cracksman colt scored nicely on turf debut at Redcar. It’d be no surprise if Burglar was a steal off his rating here.

James Ferguson runs two and both are of interest. The market prefers Wonder Legend after a five-length romp easing down on handicap debut at Doncaster. A colt by Sea The Stars, he’s up 13lb with the assessor for that effort.

At bigger odds, Land Legend chased home Queen’s Vase contender Chesspiece at York over this trip the last day and can also go well. The Galileo gelding has only been nudged up 2lb by the handicapper for that effort.

Caernarfon E/W, Hampton Court Stakes, Royal Ascot 2023 Day 3 (5:35)

After landing minor honours when fourth in the 1000 Guineas and third in The Oaks at Epsom, Caernarfon can sock it to the boys at an intermediate trip between her two Classic efforts down in grade for the Hampton Court Stakes on Ladies Day at Royal Ascot (5:35).

Trained by Jack Channon, this Cityscape filly didn’t quite get home the last day, so coming back down in distance make sense. While Caernarfon couldn’t go the pace required over a mile, a mile-and-a-quarter looks tailor-made for her. She looks a great each way bet off 112, receiving a 3lb sex allowance.

There are plenty of dangers including Irish raider Drumroll under a 4lb penalty. After chasing home Irish 2000 Guineas hero Paddington at Listed level, the Aidan O’Brien and Coolmore colt by Deep Impact was awarded the Group 3 Galilnule Stakes over this trip  by the Curragh stewards after suffering interference in the final furlong.

If Drumroll is to develop into a contender for bigger races at a higher level down the line, then he needs to be defying his penalty and outright winning this contest. With the yard winning two of the last five runnings and four editions overall, he’s certainly in the right hands to continue his progress.

Bold Act is another to consider in a typically competitive renewal of the Hampton Court. This Godolphin gelding put a disappointing run in the Feilden Stakes behind him when runner-up to Bertinelli in a Newmarket handicap over this trip. Bold Act was beaten by just a neck conceding 4lb.

Off a revised mark of 107, but without any penalties to carry, Charlie Appleby’s charge should be in the mix if running up to that rating. Bold Act, a son of New Approach, will also get further in time and looks well worth a crack at this level. The Gosden duo Epictetus and Toito, both owned by George Strawbridge and intended runners, could also have a say in the finish here.

Royal Ascot Day 4 Tips

There are two Group 1 races for all Royal Ascot tips on Friday to consider first. The Commonwealth Cup is a dedicated sprint for three-year-old colts and fillies. This used to be open to geldings as well but is no longer. Horses that won the Pavilion Stakes, Duke Of York Stakes or Sandy Lane Stakes in the UK often go on to run in this.

All Royal Ascot Friday tips also cover the Coronation Stakes on the round mile. This other Group 1 event is for three-year-old fillies and their equivalent of the St James’s Palace Stakes held on the Tuesday. This can often be a clash between the winners of the 1000 Guineas and Irish 1000 Guineas. Even those victorious in the French equivalent come over across the Channel to compete.

Royal Ascot’s equivalent of the Epsom Derby, the King Edward VII Stakes for three-year-old colts and geldings is also on the penultimate day of the meeting. This may be an alternative target for those not felt ready for the undulations of Epsom Downs. Like the day before, there are three handicaps included in Royal Ascot day 4 tips on this card.

The Sandringham Stakes for three-year-old fillies below a certain rating on the straight mile is another event to look closely at potential draw bias. Similar comments apply to Palace Of Holyrood House Stakes, a sprint handicap for horses of that age over the flying five furlongs. A race remembering the Duke Of Edinburgh over a mile-and-a-half on the round course also takes place on this day.

Little Big Bear, Commonwealth Cup, Royal Ascot 2023 Day 4 (3:05)

Little Big Bear has always been a speedy colt, so can confirm the promise of his return to sprinting last time out and land the three-year-olds only Commonwealth Cup on the penultimate day of Royal Ascot (4:20). Trained in Ireland by Aidan O’Brien, this son of No Nay Never showed his rapid pace when landing the Windsor Castle at this meeting 12 months ago.

It has been since Little Big Bear stepped up to 6f, however, that he has really shone. After following-up in a Group 3 over a longer distance, he landed a four-time with Phoenix Stakes success. Little Big Bear turned that race into a procession and, while his stamina didn’t stretch to the 2000 Guineas on reappearance, he took the Sandy Lane at Haydock unextended. He’s the one to beat here.

Best of the home team against Little Big Bear may well be another non-stayer in the Newmarket Classic, Sakheer. Sporting the same silks as other Royal Ascot hopeful Eldar Eldarov and also trained by Roger Varian, this Zoffany colt ran out an impressive winner of the Mill Reef at Newbury on his final outing as a juvenile.

Much like Little Big Bear, Sakheer retains plenty of potential as a sprinter. While the Commonwealth Cup doesn’t want to make a habit of being a bounce back race for those who don’t get home on the Rowley Mile, it’s also no accident that those prominent in the betting match this profile. Sakheer will take advantage if there’s any chink at all in Coolmore’s armour with the favourite.

In a similar vein, Ralph Beckett filly Lezoo is an each way contender with winning course and distance form. This daughter of Australian sire Zoustar notched three black type races as a juvenile last term. Lezoo went on from Listed success at Newmarket to chasing home Mawj in the Duchess Of Cambridge there during the July Festival and then added the Princess Margaret to her CV here.

A career best from Lezzo saw her capture the Group 1 Middle Park Stakes back at Headquarters in the autumn. She didn’t get the trip in the 1000 Guineas, but her previous clash with Mawj who won the fillies’ Classic reads very well in relation to this sprint assignment. Lezoo looks one to back each way early before regular jockey Frankie Dettori is confirmed in the saddle.

Royal Ascot Day 5 Tips

Completing Royal Ascot tips on Saturday, the fifth and final day sees the card headlined by the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes. Formerly the Platinum Jubilee Stakes and Diamond Jubilee Stakes, this is a sprint over six furlongs for older horses. The so-called Royal Ascot double of the King’s Stand and this race has been done before in the same season even though there are just four days between both.

The chief supporting race among Royal Ascot Saturday tips in the Hardwicke Stakes. A mile-and-a-half contest for older horses, those who ran well in the Coronation Cup at Epsom or the King Edward VII or Ribblesdale Stakes over course and distance from last year often end up here.

Specialists over seven furlongs get their chance to shine in the Jersey Stakes, while all Royal Ascot day 5 tips end with the Queen Alexandra Stakes. This is the longest Flat horse race in the UK and, as with the Ascot Stakes, many National Hunt types switch from jumps to the level to run in this conditions contest.

There is also the last of the Heritage Handicaps in the Wokingham Stakes. This sprint is open to any horses rated 110 or below aged three and up. Draw bias can play its part here, just like in the Platinum Jubilee / Queen Elizabeth Stakes or other races up the straight. The Golden Gates Stakes is another handicap over the Prince Of Wales course and distance but for three-year-olds.

Royal Ascot Gold Cup Tips

Royal Ascot tips Gold Cup

As the ultimate test of Flat stamina, the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot is the centrepiece of the entire meeting. Win this and a racehorse’s future career at stud as a sire of National Hunt types is assured. For evidence of that, look no further than record four-time Ascot Gold Cup winner Yeats. Few Royal Ascot tips as sure as him come along, though. Multiple victories are rare but not unheard of either.

The thing to remember with Royal Ascot predictions for the Gold Cup is stamina. In order to win this race, a horse has to stay. Pedigrees are a real help to punters in this regard. They can indicate what the sire and dam achieved but also full and half-brothers and sisters did on the track. Royal Ascot Gold Cup tips should also consider key trials from the previous season and during springtime.

There’s a full list of the races to follow below. Previous course form and wins over 1m 6f or further are good Royal Ascot tips for the Gold Cup to consider. Horses need to act on the round course, which has an uphill climb from Swinley Bottom all the way to the finish line. If rain hits the track during the royal meeting, then the Ascot Gold Cup can become a real slog. The going is another key consideration before betting.

Emily Dickinson E/W, Gold Cup, Royal Ascot 2023 Day 3 (4:20)

Aidan O’Brien has a record eight Gold Cup wins at Ascot to his name and, although last year’s champion stayer Kyprios misses the defence of his crown, the yard has an able deputy in Emily Dickinson for the Ladies Day feature at the Royal meeting (4:20). This four-year-old Dubawi filly looks all stamina and ended last season with a deserved Group 2 win over 2m.

Testing ground has brought out the best in Emily Dickinson, based on her last two victories, but she has scored on better going before. This extreme test of stamina might be precisely what she wants. Getting the maximum weight for age and sex allowances in the Gold Cup, Emily Dickinson is the value punt for Gold Cup glory.

Last year’s Ascot Stakes hero Coltrane and St Leger scorer Eldar Eldarov are locked together at the head of the betting, but the latter looks less exposed as a stayer and shaped very nicely on his return. Roger Varian’s four-year-old Dubawi colt stayed on very well conceding 5lb to a controversial winner in the Yorkshire Cup.

Eldar Eldarov needed every yard to get up and land the Queen’s Vase at this meeting 12 months ago. That is a key pointer to future Gold Cup horses. He may have too much class for main market rival Coltrane, but must still give weight away to Emily Dickinson. Nonetheless, Eldar Eldarov rates a big danger if coming on for his York reappearance as anticipated.

Plenty have hopes of hinting the frame, and they include Willie Mullins hurdling mare Echoes In Rain. She’s another each way contender after landing the Mares Champion Hurdle over about this trip during the Punchestown Festival. This seven-year-old daughter of Authorized proved her Flat staying credentials last year with victory in a 2m 1f Galway Festival handicap.

Echoes In Rain was also a gallant runner-up in the Irish Cesarewitch. The pick of her jumps form clearly suggests, however, she’s better than a handicapper on the level. It’d be no surprise if Echoes In Rain, who has proven a most versatile mare as regards ground, got into the places in an intriguing renewal of the Gold Cup at Ascot.

Latest Tips for Royal Ascot Today

All of the current Royal Ascot horse racing tips appear right here. These are from industry insiders, big name pundits and our own experts. Follow all their Royal Ascot tips for 2024 as and when they come out. These cover everything from the Placepot bet to multiples and system wagers like Lucky 15s.

There are also some simple Royal Ascot race tips too. These contain all the insight and opinion that you would come to expect from those giving horse racing tips today on this meeting and other big events. Our experts and respected names in the sector put a lot of thought into their Royal Ascot predictions so you don’t have to.

Avoid These Mistakes with Royal Ascot Predictions

Not all Royal Ascot tips will come off. The truth is that not even experts get things right all the time. Just look at weather forecasters! If you treat Royal Ascot betting tips as a guide rather than a guarantee, then it won’t spoil the fun. These are some other mistakes that you should avoid. Take heed and you can make better choices about the Royal Ascot predictions on offer:

Think About When Tips Were Written

All betting tips have a reasonable level of doubt to them. Even at Royal Ascot during the summer, the weather and conditions can change. Rain on the day has changed the going underfoot from good to soft ground. If the Royal Ascot tips were written in advance, and that’s likely because there are so many races to cover, then the latest information about conditions wouldn’t have been available.

No tipsters can account for the weather in Britain. Just because more or less rain than was forecast hasn’t hit the track doesn’t mean their thoughts are unreliable. They are simply a snapshot in time based on what was known at that point. Discount any tips given for horses that act best on good ground if conditions change.

Don’t Bet on Every Race

There are 35 races on at Royal Ascot across the five days of the meeting. It is a challenge even for the very best tipsters to get a handle on all that form. With seven races per day, there’s almost too much going on during the week. Even though there are Royal Ascot predictions from may different sources, it’s wiser to focus on certain events where, then kick back and enjoy the others with an eye on the future.

Approach the Juvenile Races Sensibly

There is very little to go on form wise with most of the two-year-old races happening at Royal Ascot. June in the juvenile season of a Flat thoroughbred’s career is still very early days. Even the best Royal Ascot tips admit there are a lot of unknowns regarding horses in this age bracket.

Most runners in the two-year-old races – the Coventry Stakes, Queen Mary Stakes, Windsor Castle Stakes, Norfolk Stakes, Albany Stakes and Chesham Stakes – may only have just one or two previous runs to their name. It isn’t really enough to make a proper assessment of their abilities on, so make sure you bet accordingly on these.

Our Ultimate Royal Ascot Betting Tips

There’s even more advice to follow with our top Royal Ascot racing tips for betting on this meeting. With so much going on over the five days, it’s fine if you feel like there is a lot to take in. Consider these Royal Ascot tips carefully and you can at least make better informed choices about which horses to bet on and when…

Always Bet Each Way in the Handicaps

There are plenty of races with big fields at Royal Ascot, mainly the handicaps and Heritage Handicaps. The best horse racing betting sites will even offer extra places on these events, specifically to attract each way wagers. Take them up on that. There is no future in betting on a straight win where there are 20 or more horses running.

Look out for Draw Bias on the Straight Course

Next among our top Royal Ascot tips is something we have touched on quite a bit already. There can be and often is a draw bias that impacts races on the straight course. It isn’t particularly fair but it happens. A certain side of the track, or down the middle, can just so happen to be where the best ground is. Look carefully at Royal Ascot results to see if winners and placed horses are drawn high, low or in the middle.

Study Royal Ascot Trials Day

This often sneaks under the radar but there is an official Royal Ascot Trials Day that takes place at the end of April or start of May. It’s on a Wednesday at the same track and gives young horses the chance of picking up vital course experience. Royal Ascot Trials Day has the Punchestown Festival and Guineas Weekend on during and after it, so can be overlooked. Check the results of races like the Pavilion Stakes and Sagaro Stakes to see how horses do in what may be a prep run for the royal meeting.

Compare Tipster Selections

You don’t have to follow one set of Royal Ascot tips blindly. By all means find a tipster or expert whose judgment you trust but it’s always worth comparing their thoughts with others. Horse racing betting is all about opinions. When many industry insiders agree on something, then that tells you something. By the same token if there is no consensus of opinion on which horses will win a Royal Ascot race, then it may be best to avoid betting on that event.

Look at Stats & Trends

Statistics and trends can’t tell you everything about horse racing but knowing them can help you reach decisions. There may be a particular trainer that always targets their horses at the royal meeting. Those could end up as Royal Ascot tips in themselves. American trainer Wesley Ward usually sends horses over to the UK from his Kentucky barn, for example.

It may pay to follow those in their quest for success in the sprints. Some punters just follow high-profile Irish handler Aidan O’Brien or popular jockeys like Frankie Dettori and Ryan Moore blind but you should only do so if their horses tick the right boxes and fit the profile.

Conclusion

So, there are our Royal Ascot tips and advice. We hope they prove useful in your quest to find winners. There is plenty of food for thought on this fabulous meeting. The main thing is to enjoy this gala of Flat horse racing and gamble responsibly while you’re about it!
