Grand National Tips Today

Grand National tips

Unlike any other horse race in the UK, the Grand National attracts the attention of bettors in their millions. However, with no fewer than 40 runners and riders taking part, accurate Grand National tips and predictions are certainly not easy. Grand National odds are always close to call too, given the competitive nature of the race, as well as the quality of the entrants.

Along with the Cheltenham Festival, many horse racing trainers will focus their attention on the Grand National. All Grand National runners have a chance of winning, however some are more fancied than others. Grand National racing tips, regardless of who they are created by, cannot guarantee punters profits.

The best tips for Grand National will take on board a large amount of information. This will include form, going, trainers, jockeys, age and weight. Top tips for the Grand National will help punters in making a more informed decision, rather than ensuring returns.

Delta Work

Gigginstown House Stud white cap

  • Age: 10
  • Trainer: Gordon Elliott
  • Jockey: Keith Donoghue
  • Rating: 159
  • Weight: 11st 4lb
  • Last 6 Runs: 13-1361
  • Odds: 9/1

Of the horses that placed in the Grand National last year, Delta Work appears the best treated at the revised weights. Although there’s more than 20 lengths for him to find on the bare result with re-opposing front two Noble Yeats and Any Second Now, they are now at the top of the handicap. Gordon Elliott would’ve been delighted that the assessor cut Delta Work some slack, reducing his Aintree rating by 1lb. Longhouse Poet, who was back in sixth, has the same mark.

That, combined with previous winner Noble Yeats going up 19lb and Any Second Now’s 8lb hike, is a big help. Delta Work returns for his second crack at the Grand National following a similarly successful prep run in the Cross Country Chase at the Cheltenham Festival. He bested Galvin rather than National Hunt legend Tiger Roll this year, but the front two pulled miles clear. That suggests the form has a strong look to it.

With an obvious case from a handicapping perspective, the only question is who rides Delta Work on Merseyside? Jack Kennedy has missed the early spring with a broken leg, while Davy Russell stood down at Cheltenham as his temporary break from retirement didn’t go so well. Whoever’s in the saddle, Delta Work has solid claims of victory.

The Allure of Betting on the Grand National

The Grand National is one of the most demanding races in the world. Horse racing results never really tell the full story, with there being a huge amount of action over the four-and-a-quarter miles race distance.

With over 30 fences to navigate over the two laps, it should come as no surprise that many turn to Grand National tips for additional help. The majority of bets are placed online, due in part to Grand National betting offers, while others will back their favourites with high street bookies or at Aintree Racecourse itself.

It is actually rare that the pre-race favourite wins the Grand National. While this is entertaining for neutrals, it is often a nightmare for punters wagering on UK betting sites and bookmakers. Your pick could fall at the first fence, while many runners fail to even finish. So, whether it be Grand National ante post tips or the latest Grand National tips in the days leading up to the race, be sure to take advantage of trusted tipsters.

Bookmakers are very busy in the days leading up to the race, with punters then nervously for the 10 or so minutes that it takes for the result to be determined. While the Melbourne Cup in Australia is known as “the race that stops the nation”, rhe Grand National is very much the equivalent in the UK.

Even those who have relatively little interest in horse racing for the rest of the year will have money riding on the Grand National. If you fall into this category, the latest Grand National tips will be of even greater importance.

Corach Rambler

Corach Rambler silks

  • Age: 9
  • Trainer: Lucinda Russell
  • Jockey: Derek Fox
  • Rating: 146
  • Weight: 10st 5lb
  • Last 6 Runs: 4U1-541
  • Odds: 10/1

The Scottish stable of Lucinda Russell triumphed in the 2017 Grand National with One For Arthur, so everyone at the yard knows what it takes to have the winner of this. Their great hope this year is Corach Rambler after defying a 6lb higher mark than 12 months ago and retaining the Ultima Handicap Chase on the opening day of the Cheltenham Festival.

Fourth in the Coral Gold Cup at Newbury, the race best known as the Hennessy, off a higher rating before a midwinter break, Russell and assistant Peter Scudamore have clearly had Aintree as a long-term aim for Corach Rambler. He’s won on the Mildmay course at the Merseyside venue as a novice and also shaped like the marathon trip is within his compass.

Corach Rambler is a horse that can only be ridden from off the pace and has often rallied when looking well-beaten to hit the frame. For evidence of that, look no further than Newbury before Christmas or his fourth in the 2022 Classic Chase at Warwick where he got way behind and still somehow finished fourth. The cosy nature of his third career Cheltenham win bodes well though.

Grand National Ante Post Tips

Grand National tips are available months in advance of race day. This is despite the fact that racecards are not finalised until a few weeks before fans make their way to Liverpool. The potential benefits of ante post betting are attractive, with odds often being greater. However, there are also risks involved.

Tips for the Grand National cannot guarantee that picks will actually be involved by the time the race comes around. The fact that a bookie offers odds on a runner does not mean that they will ultimately compete. Trainers may select them for another race, an injury may occur or maybe they were never on course to run.

So, for punters placing ante post bets on the Grand National, it is important to do so with bookies offering non-runner no bet. This means that your stake will be refunded, should your pick not end up starting the Grand National.

Alongside Grand National free bets, non runner no bet promotions are the most popular among betting customers. However, NRNB offers are generally only introduced in the weeks building up to the Grand National. As such, it may be worth waiting until your chosen bookie has done so.

Alternatively, some punters wait until the weights for the Grand National have been confirmed. This is also the time in which there will be a noticeable rise in the number of Grand National tips available.

Weights are hugely important for the Grand National. 2021 winner Minella Times has seen his rating rise to 161, up from 146 and 15lb from last year. This is not a clear indicator as to who will be in contention come the closing straight. However, it does make it easier to create accurate Grand National tips and predictions. Grand National weights are generally confirmed in the middle of February.

Mr Incredible

Paul Byrne silks

  • Age: 7
  • Trainer: Willie Mullins
  • Jockey: Brian Hayes
  • Rating: 145
  • Weight: 10st 4lb
  • Last 6 Runs: 2RP-B23
  • Odds: 14/1

Willie Mullins has had horses placed in three of the last four editions of the Grand National, so Mr Incredible looks well-weighted if taking his chance. This seven-year-old is seemingly a little young for the rigours of jumping those big fences at Aintree, but Noble Yeats proved last year under amateur jockey Sam Waley-Cohen that youth is no barrier to success in the world’s most famous steeplechase.

Mr Incredible kept on very well into second in the Classic Chase at Warwick on his first UK start and penultimate outing. The fourth and fifth have franked the form since by winning, while he ran well enough when third in the Kim Muir under topweight at the Cheltenham Festival. Mr Incredible was conceding a stone and 10lb in weight to the front two when last in action off his Aintree rating, so can be marked up down in distance.

A longer trip is what he shapes as though he wants. Mullins could conceivably run five or six of his Grand National entries with the bookies rating Mr Incredible an equally likely winner at Aintree than in the Irish equivalent at Fairyhouse six days earlier on Easter Monday. There’s just his past misdemeanours when trained by Henry De Bromhead to overlook.

Grand National Outsider Tips

Many punters will dream of being one of the few to successfully back an outsider at Aintree. The number of outsider bets has increased. This is due to the fact that 11 Grand National winners since 2001 have been priced at odds of 16/1 or greater.

The 2021 winner Minella Times had a starting price (SP) of 11/1, while One For Arthur (14/1), Rule The World (33/1) and Many Clouds (25/1) have also come out on top, despite being relative outsiders.

So, what should punters look out for when it comes to Grand National outsider tips? The best Grand National betting tips take into account a number of factors, making it simple for punters to make a decision regarding potential outsiders.

Now that we know the weights for the 2022 Grand National, more accurate predictions can be made. Only one winner of the Grand National over the last five years has carried 11st+. That was Tiger Roll, who is one of the best jumps horses in history.

The Big Breakaway

Eric Jones Geoff Nicholas John Roman silks

  • Age: 8
  • Trainer: Joe Tizzard
  • Jockey: Brendan Powell Jr
  • Rating: 151
  • Weight: 10st 10lb
  • Last 6 Runs: 23P-22P
  • Odds: 40/1

The Tizzard stable saddled last year’s fifth Fiddlerontheroof and, although the license has passed from father Colin to son Joe over the summer, the yard’s MO of sourcing staying chasers remains the business model. The Big Breakaway demonstrated that with two placed efforts over the winter. Only Fontaine Collonges from the family of 2012 Grand National hero Neptune Collonges denied him by a head at Haydock with him conceding 12lb in weight to the winner.

It was no surprise when The Big Breakaway defied a welter burden of 11st 13lb to finish runner-up in the Welsh Grand National just after Christmas. He faced an impossible task in giving The Two Amigos a massive 26lb and was only beaten a length and a tail off 3lb lower than his Aintree rating. The Big Breakaway found the drop back in trip against him when pulling-up in the Ultima Handicap Chase on the opening day of the Cheltenham Festival.

That latest effort may be best ignored from a horse that has demonstrated real stamina. Unlike at Chepstow or Haydock, The Big Breakaway looks sure to get a nice racing weight of under 11st, provided one of the initial joint-topweights lines up and frames the handicap. That will help his chances, and there are worse 50/1 shots among the Grand National outsiders this year.

Consider the Going & Form

Grand National tips

Meanwhile, given the fact that weather in the UK is temperamental, it could well be worth backing a horse that is known to perform well in wet conditions. Meanwhile, horses with heavier weights will likely find it more difficult when the going is also heavy.

Elsewhere, it is interesting to note that there has been just one 12+ aged winner of the Grand National since 1996. On top of this, there has never been a seven-year-old winner in that time. Such statistics give punters a much clearer picture of who to back with outside bets.

Grand National outsider bets should take into account such details too. Results leading up to the Grand National will also give punters a good indication as to who will do well at Aintree. Any horse racing tips for the Grand National should recognise the struggles of 2021 winner Minella Times over recent months.

Similarly, Grand National runners tips should really discuss the three wins recorded by Snow Leopardess including over the famous Aintree fences this season. Given the popularity of horse racing betting in the UK, this is the least that punters should ask for when it comes to Grand National tips.

Grand National Each Way Tips

With 40 horses making up the Grand National field, punters require a large chunk of luck to back a winner. The Grand National course at Aintree is over four-and-a-quarter miles in length, with 30 fences and ditches making it treacherous for both runners and riders. As a result, many will place each-way bets instead of outright winner wagers.

Each-way bets provide punters with a form of insurance. Bookies pay out on placed horses, which in normal circumstances would be up to 4th or 5th position. However, extra places offers can be found on many betting sites. This means that bookies may pay out on the 6th, 7th or even 8th place finisher.

Each-way odds surrounding the Grand National will also differ between bookies. For example, some will pay out at a quarter of outright odds, while others go a fifth. Other each-way odds are found, however these are the most common. This is another factor to consider when taking advantage of Grand National each way tips.

Roi Mage

Roi Mage silks

  • Age: 11
  • Trainer: Patrick Griffin
  • Jockey: Felix De Giles
  • Rating: 149
  • Weight: 10st 8lb
  • Last 6 Runs: 17-33F2
  • Best Odds: 33/1

After missing the cut into last year’s Grand National, Roi Mage is primed for a tilt at Aintree glory by his veteran trainer. An eye-catching third on reappearance in a big Cross Country race at Compiegne in France, he filled the same spot down in trip at Tramore in their New Year’s Day Chase behind former Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Minella Indo and Stattler.

A fall in a Cross Country handicap at Cheltenham on Festival Trials Day put a spring campaign in doubt. Roi Mage survived those cuts and bruises, however, to chase home Longhouse Poet in a conditions race at Down Royal that he won 12 months earlier. There is a substantial 11lb swing in the weights from the last day in his favour now, however.

It makes Roi Mage look a bit of each way value in the Grand National against last year’s sixth, who does have something to find on those re-opposing that finished in front of him 12 months ago. This is why it can pay to look at others with form that ties in closely to the market principals as this one is overpriced in handicapping terms.

Tipsters Grand National Tips

Grand National tips are readily available online, as well as via other publications. Tips for Grand National are delivered by proven tipsters, horse racing pundits, jockeys and broadcasters. For some, Grand National pundits tips are the most valuable. However, Grand National top tips from such sources are generally only available in the weeks leading up to the race. Meanwhile, Grand National ante post tips are, for the most part, created by online tipsters.

Grand National pundits tips are worth utilising, given the fact that such individuals will often have insider knowledge. Whether it be on which entrant has been galloping well in training or whether one of the favourites has a slight injury problem. Regardless of which Grand National horse tips you take advantage of, there are no guarantees.

Many horse racing tips today have already been given for the race. Grand National tips are increasingly common as a result. Everyone from racing broadcasters to former jockeys are having their say. These are our top tips for the Grand National worth considering ahead of the race:

  • Each Way Bets – As we’ve already mentioned, each way bets are really the way to go with this race. Grand National each way tips are easy to find, with tipsters suggesting who looks likely to hit the frame. Remember, with this bet type, you get a return if your pick places, offering more insurance than an outright win bet.
  • Non-Runner No Bet – When it comes to taking advantage of Grand National ante post tips, it’s important that bets are placed with bookies offering NRNB promotions. When available, your stake will be refunded in the event of your selection not making the cut. As with any betting promotions, read the terms and conditions in full to avoid disappointment.
  • Avoid Certain Tipsters – Grand National tips will not always come from trusted or reliable sources. Written with little research or horse racing knowledge, punters must establish which experts to take advantage of. Pundits, former jockeys and broadcasters are high on the list. However, less high-profile tipsters, who have a good reputation, should also be considered.
  • Monitor Odds – Grand National betting tips may well change as odds for the race fluctuate. So, be sure to keep a close eye on market movers in the build-up. Some bookies may even offer price boosts on selected runners, in an attempt to entice punters into wagering.
  • Utilise Free Tips – Given the amount of tips available surrounding the Grand National, there’s little reason to pay for predictions. Free and carefully thought out picks are readily available online. So, unless you have history with a subscription-based tipster, avoid spending your hard earned cash on tips.
