York Racing Results on Wednesday 23rd August 2023 – Mostahdaf Defeats Paddington in Juddmonte International
Frankie Dettori took the outright record, surpassing Lester Piggott as the winningest jockey in the Group 1 Juddmonte International Stakes with Mostahdaf bursting the bubble of Paddington. Under a positive ride from the beloved Italian, the five-year-old gave weight and a length and a tail beating to the three-year-old.

Billed as the champion colt of his generation following wins at Royal Ascot and Glorious Goodwood, Paddington was only third as Nashwa nicked the runner-up spot close home. Dettori set the fractions and made all the running, with Mostahdaf the first horse to thwart the young pretender. York racing results show The Foxes, who won the Dante here in May, trailed in a distant fourth.
Equilateral Defies Topweight in Sprint Opener
The opening Sky Bet & Symphony Group Heritage Handicap over an extended 5f saw Equilateral cash in on the drop into handicaps off topweight, prevailing from locally-trained pair Alligator Alley and Jm Jungle. Under Jamie Spencer, the eight-year-old rated 105 scored by a neck with fine margins separating those in the first four.
York Racing Results – Classic Quotes for Acomb Winner Indian Run
Indian Run gave the in-form Eve Johnson Houghton stable a Group 3 success in the first juvenile event of Ebor Festival, the 7f Group 3 Tattersalls Acomb Stakes. Racing down the centre of the Knavesmire turf, he held off the late challenge of hold-up horse and joint-favourite Ballymount Boy.
York racing results from this two-year-olds only event show course and distance winner Loose Cannon taking third. Connections of Indian Run, a syndicate of owners called the Bronte Collection, can now dream of the 2000 Guineas in the spring.
Continuous Support for Great Voltigeur Hero in St Leger Betting
Aidan O’Brien ended a seven-year wait for a Great Voltigeur winner as Continuous bested erstwhile St Leger favourite Gregory in the last key St Leger trial in the UK. Ryan Moore wanted no part of the early pace in this 1m 4f Group 2 contest for three-year-old colts and geldings, but York racing results show him pulling almost four lengths clear of Godolphin runner Castle Way.
Continuous stays on powerfully to win the @SkyBet Great Voltigeur Stakes under Ryan Moore @yorkracecourse!

Continuous took his form to a new level with Gregory, the well-backed odds-on favourite on horse racing betting sites, fading into third after making the running. He also confirmed Royal Ascot form with distant fourth Artistic Star, who couldn’t go the pace. Continuous is now the new St Leger favourite for the final Classic of the season on Saturday, 16 September.
Stayers Success for Local Runner Forza Orta
The second Heritage Handicap of the meeting, the 2m Sky Bet Stayers Handicap, went to previous course winner and a locally-trained runner in Forza Orta. Rowan Scott had to angle him out for a run, but he held off well-backed favourite Aztec Empire by a neck. A stewards’ enquiry was called, but the interference was caused by Mostly Sunny who was fourth past the post behind topweight Solent Gateway.
Designer Defends Fillies’ Sprint Handicap Crown
John Butler saddled Designer to consecutive victories in the 5f Fillies’ Sprint Handicap. She just got up and denied 40/1 outsider Rage Of Bamby, preventing a double for the Eve Johnson Houghton stable. York racing results tell us the front three were a little ahead of course and distance winner Pillow Talk in fourth with Marine Wave also in the frame.
Zoulu Chief Stops Starlust from the Front
Another favourite got turned over in the concluding 6f nursery handicap with Starlust coming out of the pack too late to stop Zoulu Chief, who made all the running. It was a significant win for claiming female jockey Gina Mangan and trainer Heather Main. Room Service was back in third.
