SPORTSLENS 1-2-3 YORK ITV RACING TIPS: Many chances in the opening York race on day tow of their Dante Festival, but a chance is taken with the Grant Tuer-trained Illusionist. This 6 year-old will be having his 26th career run on the grass and has hit the top three 9 times (4 wins). He was lightly-raced last season with only 2 runs, but one of those was a York win in May. He’s only 2lbs higher here than that success and will be match fit after a good third at Ripon at the end of April. Regional and CD winner Alligator Alley are others to consider, with low draws – 12 of the last 14 winners came from a single-figure stall.

2:25 – Al Basti Equiworld Dubai Middleton Fillies’ Stakes (Group 2) Cl1 (4yo+) 1m2½f ITV4
SPORTSLENS 1-2-3 YORK ITV RACING TIPS: It’s hard to ignore the chance of Free Wind here. This John Gosden runner is the clear top-rated in the field and from 6 runs on the turf has won 5 and been second the other time. She was last seen romping away with the Lancashire Oaks at Haydock in July and despite only racing once last term is a horse that’s got a fine record fresh – winning both times she’s had a 180+ day break.
Of the rest, CD winner Aristia for Richard Hannon isn’t without a squeak despite having to give Free Wind 3lbs – the horses from stall 4 have won 5 of the last 18 too. While the Varian runner Toskana Belle brings a consistent profile to the race and can fight it out for the places too.

SPORTSLENS 1-2-3 YORK ITV RACING TIPS: Last year’s winner Cruyff Turn is back for more and respected having blown away the cobwebs last time at Thirsk and is back here rated a pound lower than last season. However, the Stoute runner Assessment could end up being better than a handicapper after progressing well in his opening four runs. He won well at Kempton on the AW last month and a 6lb rise for that looks fair. Ryan Moore rides and being 1-from-1 on the grass the switch to the turf is fine. The Hollie Doyle-ridden Imperial Sands is another to note.

3:35 – Al Basti Equiworld Dubai Dante Stakes (Group 2) Cl1 (3yo) 1m2½f ITV4
SPORTSLENS 1-2-3 YORK ITV RACING TIPS: Onto the Dante Stakes and all eyes will be on the winner in the Epsom Derby with this York race one of the best trials around. 5 of the last 20 Dante winners have won the Derby, including last year’s hero Desert Crown, who was the latest horse since Golden Horn to do the double.
Likely market leader Epictetus will be popular with Frankie riding, but this race has only seen 3 winning market leaders in the last 15. William Buick has a good record in the race too and rides Flying Honours for Godolphin, but last year’s winning yard of Sir Michael Stoute is chanced again.
They run the once-raced Passenger here and despite being inexperienced caught the eye on debut with a smooth 3l win at Newmarket over a mile. The step up in trip here looks within range based on his breeding and the fact Stoute is upping him in grade suggests they think he’s useful. The only thing is, he’s not got an Epsom Derby entry.
The Foxes and the unbeaten Canberra Legend, who won the Feilden Stakes at HQ last time, are also expected to be in the thick of things.

4:10 – British EBF 40th Anniversary Westow Stakes (Listed Race) Cl1 (3yo) 5f ITV4
SPORTSLENS 1-2-3 YORK ITV RACING TIPS: Many chances here but the proven course and distance winner Walbank gets the nod. This 102-rated 3 year-old has already been placed in Group 2 and 3 races, so this ease into a Listed race will make life easier – the most recent was a third in the G3 Molecomb Stakes at Glorious Goodwood last July. He’s been freshened up since and has also got the tongue-tie on today to help eke out a bit more – with just 4 career runs should have more in the locker.
Silent Words, who has only had two career runs and Katey Kontent have claims too being low drawn – 8 of the last 11 winners came from stalls 1-5.
