York Horse Racing Trends: Lindum York Handicap Stats
The opening at York on Thursday sees a competitive handicap and if the trends are anything to go by, we are looking for horses that ran in the last 5 weeks, finished in the top 5 last time out (but didn’t win) and came from a single-figure draw.
With 10 of the last 14 winners aged 6 or older too, then these York trends combined suggest Illusionist is certainly worth a second look.

York Horse Racing Trends: Middleton Stakes Stats
Decent Group 2 race next that will revolve around the Frankie Dettori and John Gosden runner Free Wind. This 5 year-old is the clear top-rated in the field (115) and it’s also a race the yard like to target – winning 2 of the last 4, with Frankie in the plate each time too. We’ve also seen a massive 10 of the last 18 favourites win the Middleton Stakes.
Of the rest, with 5 of the last 18 winners coming from stall 4, this might give Aristia a boost.

We’ve only seen 3 winning favourites in the last 17, but 13 of those finished in the top four. A single-figure draw and having raced in the last 6 weeks are York trends to note, pus 4 year-olds have a fair record – winning 7 of the last 17.
With that in mind, the Stoute runner Assessment, with Ryan Moore riding, ticks a lot of boxes, as do the Hollie Doyle-ridden Imperial Sands and proven course winner Northern Express.

- 3/17 – Winning favourites (1 joint, 1 co)
- 1/17 – Won last time out
- 2022 Winner: Cruyff Turn (8/1)
York Horse Racing Trends: Dante Stakes Stats
Probably the best Epsom Derby trial around at the moment. In the last 20 runnings we’ve seen 5 Dante winners land the Derby, including last year when Desert Crown did the double. 11 of the last 20 winners were also placed in the Derby.
Trainer, John Gosden, Mark Johnson, Aidan O’Brien and Sire Michael Stoute have dominated the Dante – winning 12 of the last 20 between them.
With only 3 winning favourites in the last 15 runnings, this is something to note and might be used to take on the likely jolly Epictetus, while having a previous run this season has also been a bit of a help (13 of the last 20).
William Buick also has a good record in the race in recent years, so his Flying Honours is respected, but the three that are chanced based on the trends are Canberra Legend, The Foxes and Passenger.
