Xavi Simons, 20, is currently on loan at RB Leipzig from Paris Saint-Germain. He has long been touted for a dazzling future and has been living up to the hype this season in Germany, where he has 22 goal contributions from 37 matches – including notable performances in the Champions League.

He is turning heads with genuine elite levels of performance and Arsenal are known to have tracked Simons for some time. It is understood their desire for better squad depth and quality is leading them to potentially consider him as a target again for the summer window, depending on how his club situation opens up.

Dutch international Simons will return to Paris after this term but his future there is not clear, even with Kylian Mbappe on his way out.

Leipzig are keen to extend his loan but PSG boss Luis Enrique intends to talk with him, and feels he could play a big role next season. Given PSG’s notable transfer shift away from the biggest and the best to the brightest young talents, Simons’ versatility as attacker – capable of playing off both flanks but also centrally – is desirable.

Arsenal are in the market for a wide man but with detailed knowledge of Simons already, and seeing his incredible progress in senior football to this point, it is felt they are becoming more serious about the idea of an approach.

Other English clubs want to be kept in the loop on this situation. Tottenham also want an attacker of such type and sources indicate that he has been watched this season. Spurs have been keeping an eye on other players such as Nico Williams, Pedro Neto and Antonio Nusa too as they contemplate exciting new ideas for next season.

Manchester United have also tracked him, but it is not yet clear if he is identified as an ongoing player of interest as the club reshape their staff around recruitment and prepare for the summer market.
