Football fans on Twitter (X) have reacted following Mason Holgate’s horror tackle on Brighton’s Kaoru Mitoma.

Mason Holgate was sent off on his Sheffield United Premier League debut after a horror thigh-high challenge on Brighton winger Kaoru Mitoma.
Holgate initially received a yellow card from referee Stuart Atwell in open play but the punishment was upgraded to a red card after a VAR review.
Sheffield United went on to lose the game 5-0 and are now firmly planted to the bottom of the Premier League table.
Holgate now faces a three-game ban, but some believe the former Everton defender should receive a harsher punishment.
Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp fumed after the challenge and claimed it could have ended Mitoma’s career.
Speaking on Sky Sports Super Sunday, Redknapp said: “It’s an assault. It’s one of the worst tackles I’ve seen in years.
“Even in my era that would have been a scandalous tackle.
“How on earth Mitoma’s managed to get his left leg out of the way, I’ve got no idea. Thank goodness he has, otherwise, that’s career-ending. His career would be finished.
“I feel so sorry for Chrissy (Chris) Wilder in this instance because his best-laid plans… he’s said ‘alright, let’s not make any mistakes, let’s not give anything away this first 10 minutes, and you have a player that does that.
“I’ve got no idea what he’s thinking, but he’s cost his team – they’ve got to run around, chase, try and get into a game, and obviously the [opening] goal’s going to come from that, but a scandalous tackle.”
