Argentina & Messi Suffer Shock Defeat To Saudi Arabi
Saudi Arabia were as big as 20/1 to beat Argentina in their opening World Cup game on Tuesday and after Lionel Messi put the two-time World Cup winners ahead in the first half from the penalty spot, the writing looked on the wall for Saudi Arabia and it was probably ‘name your price’ on the Saudi’s winning the game.
However, they survived the first half without conceding another and what all football fans witnessed in the second half was a remarkable comeback that saw 48min and 53 min strikes from Saudi Arabia to take the lead.
With over 35mins still to play, many thought it was only a matter of time before Messi and co kicked into gear to see off the Saudi team that has a FIFA Ranking of 51 and 48 places behind Argentina in 3rd.
However, the expected fightback never materialised. The Saudi’s defended well and also had to see out over 10mins of injury-time after a horror injury that saw Yasir Al-Shahrani collide with his own keeper to bring in the new concussion protocol at the 2022 FIFA World Cup Finals.
The bookmakers reacted by pushing Argentina out to 17/2 in the World Cup outright betting market.
Argentina’s next World Cup game is against Mexico on Saturday 26th November, while Saudi Arabia take on Poland also on the 26th.
