The WBC have today announced that the winner of a potential fight between Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder would earn a mandatory Heavyweight title bout next year.

A fight between Deontay Wilder and Anthony Joshua has been on the cards for some time now and the WBC confirmed today that the winner of a future bout would earn more than just pride in their long term feud.

The Bronze Bomber and AJ are both in action this weekend, with the heavyweight fighters headlining a Saudi Arabia card that could shape the next year of boxing.

Despite Joshua and Wilder headlining Saturday’s card, there are no championship belts on the line this weekend, with instead a fight between the pair booked should they both win.

AJ is taking on 33-year-old Swedish heavyweight Otto Wallin on Saturday in the main event, while Deontay Wilder faces Joseph Parker in what is a stacked undercard.

The pair are expected to face off on March the 6th next year, presuming they both come out on top in their respective bouts this weekend.

Whoever wins the Wilder-Joshua fight will earn a mandatory championship bout against either Tyson Fury or Oleksandr Usyk – with the heavyweight giants set to face off at the start of next year.

The ‘Gypsy King’ currently holds the WBC title, while Usyk holds five titles that he will be putting on the line in his bid to become undisputed heavyweight champ on February 17th.

British boxing fans will be licking their lips at a potential Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury championship bout next year, but first things first AJ will have to beat Otto Wallin and the Bronze Bomber in what could be two make or break fights in his career.
