William Saliba did well to keep Erling Haaland quiet in Arsenal’s 1-0 victory against Manchester City but he suffered a toe injury in the process which now keeps him out of the France squad.

Saliba has been troubled with pain in his big right toe in the past and it seems as though he’s aggravated it again. He will stay in London where we be assessed by Arsenal’s medical staff.

Saliba will miss Euro qualifier game against Netherlands and a friendly against Scotland. France sit clear at the top of their group by six points with just 3 games to go.

A France national team statement read: “William Saliba is not able to participate in the gathering of the French team. The Arsenal defender suffers from pain in his right big toe. He will remain available to his club to treat this chronic injury.

“After speaking with Dr. Franck Le Gall, the French team doctor, Didier Deschamps noted William Saliba’s withdrawal and decided to replace him with Jean-Clair Todibo. The latter is expected at Clairefontaine on Monday at noon, like all the selected players.”

When Arsenal return they travel to Stamford Bridge to take on Chelsea in a game all Arsenal fans hope Saliba is fit for.
