Gareth Southgate has named his England squad for the upcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers against Malta and North Macedonia, with Chelsea forward Raheem Sterling missing out again.

The Three Lions have already qualified for next summer’s tournament in Germany ahead of the last international break of 2023.

No Room For Raheem Sterling in 25-man Squad

Sterling has now missed out on the last five England camps, earning his last cap in the 2022 World Cup quarter-final defeat to France last December.

Previously, Sterling has played a key role under Southgate’s tenure as Three Lions boss and was vital in England’s run to the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup and Euro 2020 final. However, with the emergence of Bukayo Saka, Phil Foden and James Maddison, the 28-year-old has found his chances at international level limited.

Will Raheem Sterling Consider His International Future?

Sterling has had some memorable moments since making his England debut 11 years ago, netting a hat-trick against Czech Republic in 2019 and scoring three goals at Euro 2020, including the opener against Germany in the last 16.

However, after his latest omission, will Sterling begin to consider hanging up his international boots and focus on this club duties? If he misses out on the final squad for Euro 2024, it wouldn’t come as a huge surprise if the former Manchester City and Liverpool star calls it a day.

Gareth Southgate Insists The Door Is Still Open

Sterling isn’t the only player to find his place in Gareth Southgate’s long term squad in jeopardy. West Ham United’s James Ward-Prowse missed out and a fit-again Reece James was also omitted, but the Three Lions boss insists all is not lost: “The door is 100 per cent open, not only for Raheem but other players that aren’t in the squad.

“We don’t need to know about his quality and personality. He’s a crucial part of why we’ve had the journey we’ve had over the last few years. The squad is playing really well and we had an exceptional win against Italy last time out. Who do we leave out?”
