James Ward-Prowse was once again omitted from the latest England squad ahead of the final two Euro 2024 qualifiers against Malta and North Macedonia.
He even missed out when James Maddison, Lewis Dunk and Callum Wilson were replaced earlier this week which will surely beg the question, should Ward-Prowse consider his Three Lions future?
No Room For James Ward-Prowse In The England Squad
James Ward-Prowse has been absent from the England camp for over a year now, earning his last cap in the 0-0 Nations League draw with Italy in June 2022.
In total, he has represented England 11 times and has two goals to his name, coming against minnows Andorra and San Marino. Ward-Prowse is not renowned for goalscoring, more so his deadly set pieces which would be a vital attribute at international level.
Will James Ward-Prowse Consider His International Future?
Ward-Prowse has never featured for England in a major championship or tournament, mainly making substitute appearances in friendlies or qualifiers. With that said, the West Ham star has been hugely impressive since his summer switch to the London Stadium and many fans believe he would make a great addition to the squad ahead of the Euros in the summer.
However, time is running out for Ward-Prowse to make the squad for Euro 2024 and he may himself think that time is running out on his international career. After a series of snubs from England boss Gareth Southgate, it wouldn’t come as a huge surprise if Ward-Prowse did hang up his international boots to focus on his club career.
James Ward-Prowse On England Snubs
“Yeah, huge disappointment [not to be in the squad]. Like I said many times in interviews, you can only control what you can control as a player, and that’s playing to a certain level that you believe is good enough to be in that squad. It’s important that you play regularly and I’m doing both at the minute. I feel like I’m in a good place, and it’s not gone my way. But I’m focused on West Ham, doing my best for this club and enjoying every minute of it, so long that may that continue,” he said in October.
The West Ham star is naturally disappointed not to be selected but it would strongly appear he is as focused and determined as ever to get himself back on Gareth Southgate’s radar. If he doesn’t make the squad for the friendlies against Belgium and Brazil in March, it really would be a viable option for Ward-Prowse to consider hanging up his international boots.
