On Sunday, Nicolas Jackson picked up his fifth yellow card of the season so naturally he will have to serve a one-match ban. Malo Gusto also picked up a red card in that match.
However, he can play tonight against Brighton in the Carabao Cup as yellow card offences do not carry on from the Premier League. Instead, Jackson will serve his ban next Monday as Chelsea travel to Craven Cottage to face Fulham.
Jackson’s fifth yellow card in just six games will worry Pochettino as all of the yellows have been for dissent. He has already had disciplinary conversations with him.
Gusto received a straight red card on Sunday so his suspension will take place from this evening. The strange rule is that with red card suspensions count for all domestic games whilst yellow card suspensions don’t carry on outside of the tournament a player received it in.
A straight red card automatically means a player will miss three games. Gusto will also miss the game against Fulham and a trip to Turf Moor when they face Burnley.
Chelsea V Brighton kicks off at 7:45pm this evening.
