Will the Premier League ever be free to air

Premier League fans might have noticed a reduced weekend fixture list, with only four games scheduled. This is due to the FA Cup quarter-finals that are set to unfold during the same period.

This weekend, the FA Cup quarter-finals will feature six clubs from the Premier League and just two from the Championship.

These clubs include: Wolverhampton Wanderers, Manchester City, Newcastle United, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United, Coventry City, and Leicester City.

Which Premier League Fixtures Will Take Place This Weekend?

On Saturday, March 16th, three Premier League matches are scheduled, with the remaining fixture set for Sunday, March 17th. The matchups are as follows:

  • Burnley vs Brentford (Saturday, March 16th)
  • Luton Town vs Nottingham Forest (Saturday, March 16th)
  • Fulham vs Tottenham Hotspur (Saturday, Match 16th)
  • West Ham United vs Aston Villa (Sunday, March 17th)

Burnley vs Brentford

With both teams at the bottom of the table, they will be fiercely battling to avoid relegation, adding an element of intrigue to their upcoming clash.

At the moment, Burnley is in 19th place with 14 points, and Brentford is positioned at 15th with 26 points. Despite the apparent advantage for Brentford, with their key player, Ivan Toney, returning, defeating Burnley might not be a straightforward task.

Burnley has demonstrated resilience by securing points against teams such as West Ham, Brighton, and Fulham, all of whom currently rank higher than Brentford in the table.

Luton Town vs Nottingham Forest

Both teams find themselves at the lower end of the table, with Luton Town positioned in 18th place, having accumulated 21 points, while Nottingham Forest holds the 17th spot with a total of 24 points.

It is noteworthy that Luton also have a game in hand over Forest. If they secure a victory over the weekend, they will surpass Forest in the table, holding an additional game yet to be played.

This match holds immense significance for both teams in their fight against relegation. Being played at Kenilworth, a venue where even prominent teams have faced challenges and only narrowly secured victories, Luton will be confident to come out on top.

Fulham vs Tottenham Hotspur

The outcome of this match could significantly impact Tottenham Hotspur’s pursuit of Champions League qualification for the next season. Fulham currently occupies a mid-table position, standing at 12th with 35 points, while Spurs are positioned in 5th place with 53 points.

Despite trailing Aston Villa by 2 points in the table, Tottenham has a game in hand. If results favour them over the weekend, Spurs could find themselves in a top-four position, maintaining an additional match advantage over Villa.

Following their impressive 4-0 victory over Villa last weekend, Spurs will aim to carry forward this momentum into their upcoming match. On the flip side, Fulham, coming off a setback against Wolves, will look to bounce back and disrupt the top-four ambitions of their fellow London counterparts.

West Ham vs Aston Villa

The impending clash promises intrigue, with both clubs fiercely competing for spots in European competitions. West Ham has its sights set on securing a place in the Europa League, while Aston Villa is determined to clinch a spot in the prestigious Champions League.

Following their 4-0 defeat to Spurs last weekend, Villa will be determined to recover and resume their push for a top-four position. On the other hand, the Hammers are looking to bounce back from a disappointing draw against Burnley.

Unai Emery’s team will understand the significance of this crucial game, and they will be keen on avoiding any additional advantages for Spurs. The result of this match may prove decisive as the season approaches its conclusion.
