Has Chris Kavanagh Refereed Man Utd Or Chelsea This Season?

Chris Kavanagh has refereed Manchester United just once in the Premier League so far this season; the Red Devils 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace at Old Trafford in September.

Joachim Andersen scored the only goal of the game with a sublime volley and from Kavanagh’s perspective, it was a relatively incident-free game. With that said, he did issue three yellow cards to United players. Casemiro, Mason Mount and Sofyan Amrabat.

Kavanagh has also officiated just one Chelsea game in the Premier League so far this season; the Blues 2-2 draw with Arsenal at Stamford Bridge in October.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side threw away a two-goal lead and the London derby saw seven yellow cards issued, with three of them to Chelsea players. Cole Palmer, Thiago Silva and arc Cucurella.

Ahead of the match, the best UK betting sites make Chelsea the match favourites at 7/5, with the draw 11/4 and Manchester United 21/11.

Premier League VAR Controversies 2023/24

Kavanagh has avoided any major VAR controversies in his five Premier League games so far this season, but he did come under the spotlight during Manchester United‘s 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace at Old Trafford in September. The Red Devils thought they should have been awarded a penalty when a Marcus Rashford cross struck the hand of Palace defender Joel Ward.

VAR did check the incident but deemed it was an unintentional handball, so no penalty was awarded. Apparently, Kavanagh did apologise to United boss Erik ten Hag afterwards, claiming when he looked back on his phone, he thought it should have been given. He would later claim that the VAR officials mislead him.

Kavanagh and his officials will need to be at their very best on Wednesday night when the two Premier League giants collide in what promises to be a midweek blockbuster.
