Everton entertain Manchester United at Goodison Park on Sunday in their first game since they were docked 10-points for a breach of profit and sustainability rules.  The Toffees are back in the relegation mire but they did pick up a brilliant win at Crystal Palace before the international break. The Red Devils will be looking for their third straight Premier League win after back-to-back 1-0 victories against Luton and Fulham.

John Brooks has been appointed as the Everton vs Manchester United referee and he will be assisted by Lee Betts and Darren Cann, while Andy Madley will act as fourth official. VAR duties will fall to Chris Kavanagh and Eddie Smart.

Has John Brooks Refereed Everton Or Man Utd This Season?

John Brooks is yet to officiate an Everton game in the Premier League this season but he has refereed one Manchester United fixture. Brooks was in charge when the Red Devils nicked a 1-0 win away at Fulham earlier this month with Bruno Fernandes netting an injury-time winner.

Jones issued eight yellow cards that day but only two of those were shown to United players; Alejandro Garnacho and Diogo Dalot.

Ahead of the match, the best UK betting sites make Man Utd the match favourites at 31/20, with the draw 5/2 and Everton at 37/20.

Premier League VAR Controversies 2023/24

John Brooks’ only main VAR controversy this season came during Manchester United’s late win against Fulham at Craven Cottage. Although it didn’t matter too much in the end, Brooks was accused of wrongly ruling out a Scott McTominay goal in the first-half, believing that Harry Maguire had interfered with the Cottagers defenders.

Brooks checked the VAR monitor for several minutes and came to the decision that the Red Devils defender was at fault in the build-up. Nonetheless, Brooks will be keen to avoid any incidents and close calls this weekend with a huge three points up for grabs.
