Maidstone United FA Cup Journey

Maidstone United are enjoying a fairytale story in the FA Cup this season after making it all the way to the fifth round as the lowest ranked team in the competition.

The Stones currently sit eighth in the National League South which is a whole four division’s below the second lowest ranked side left in the competition.

There are no sides left in the FA Cup from either League One or League Two, with the next lowest ranked team coming in the form of Blackburn Rovers who are 16th in the Championship.

Blackburn also have a tough draw in the fifth round this year as they welcome Premier League side Newcastle to Ewood Park.

Maidstone have played seven games in the FA Cup this season so far, as they had to play in qualifying rounds during the earlier stages of the competition.

After breezing through three stages of qualification, Maidstone won three games in a row to earn a fourth round tie against Ipswich Town away from home.

The Stones weren’t phased by Championship high-flyers Ipswich, as they shocked everyone with a narrow win at Portman Road to knock a third football league club out of the competition this year.
